Rainbow cake tutorial 🌈 I dyed small batches of buttercream all the colors of the rainbow using @wiltoncakes food color and placed it in its own piping bag. 🌈 I then applied the colors one by one to the cake tummy. Let's make a rainbow topper 🌈 Watch till the end to see the finished cake 🤩 Here are a few points to remember when making a rainbow topper 👇🏼 (Don't forget to scroll down for my TOP TIPS 😉) ❤️ Use a fondant smoother to roll the sugar paste/fondant into thin "sausages" to avoid fingerprints and to make sure the thickness is the same 🧡 Use a round biscuit cutter as the center to shape the rainbow 💛 Glue the "sausages" nicely together. Make sure they are glued together all the way down. You can use edible glue or water 💚 Cut the side that you want to have on top of the cake first. Use a ruler to measure the length of the other half. Add 1-2cm extra (you can cut this off after you have iced the cake and measured it)  To give an example: My 6" cake is usually 10cm tall. But sometimes (depending on the filling) it can be 10.5cm or 11cm. So better to make it a little bit too long. 🩵 Add rods to the top half and let it dry for 12 hours. 💜 Use a sharp knife to remove it from the board. DON'T try to remove it directly. The fondant will break, and all your hard work will be for nothing! ⭐️My TOP TIP for fondant decorations⭐️ 💜 Mix a little tylose powder into the fondant. This helps it dry properly. 💜 Always make your fondant toppers min 12 hours in advance and dry them well. 💜 I dry them at night in the oven with the lights on. The slight heat makes them dry properly, and they are ready for use the next day. If you are in a hurry, you can also dry them for 1 hour on very low heat. 💜 If you are making them many days in advance, remember to store them correctly in an airtight, flat container after drying them. 💜 As most containers have a small bend at the base, I turn the tupperware upside down and use the lid for the fondant toppers. This keeps them 100% flat and easier to remove without risk of breaking later. Hope this was helpful for you.
