#singingThe story centers on Max Fischer (played by Jason Schwartzman), the character you see in the image with the red beret and goggles.
Max is a precocious 15-year-old scholarship student at the elite Rushmore Academy. While he is one of the school's worst academic students, he is its undisputed "king of extracurriculars." He is the president of countless clubs (from beekeeping to fencing), editor of the school paper, and, most notably, the director of the "Max Fischer Players," an ambitious drama club that stages elaborate plays.
Max's life is turned upside down when he falls in love with a widowed first-grade teacher, Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams). Simultaneously, he befriends Herman Blume (Bill Murray), a disillusioned and melancholic industrialist who is the father of two of Max's classmates.
An unorthodox and chaotic love triangle forms when Blume also falls for Miss Cross. This sparks a bitter and hilarious feud between Max and his adult mentor, leading to Max's expulsion from Rushmore and a series of elaborate, and increasingly personal, revenge plots (which include the go-kart scene from your image).
