⬇️Products we use + where + how we use them⬇️ 1️⃣ Vinegar wipes - used for little messes here and there throughout the house 🏡 2️⃣ Water - used with a window cloth to wash 🪟’s + mirrors 3️⃣ All purpose spray - used to wash counters, bathroom floor & any surfaces that don’t need extra scrubbing. There are a few safer options out there for an all purpose concentrate. (But to be honest - when the concentrate we have is gone I may not even replace this. Instead we’ll just use vinegar.) 4️⃣ Vinegar - used to remove hard water stains + soap scum, can also be mixed 1:1 ratio of vinegar & distilled water in a spray bottle & use as your all purpose cleaner. If you don’t like the smell or vinegar add in drops of essential oil. 5️⃣ Baking Soda - used for extra scrubbing action in the kitchen (sink, stove, oven, baking dishes) and in the bathroom. ❌DO NOT❌ use along with vinegar - the 2 together are great cleaning products but lose their cleaning ability when mixed. 6️⃣ Bon Ami - used in bathroom to clean tub + shower tile, sink, toilet bowl. 🛑There is NO reason why you shouldn’t make this swap to a healthier soap. 🧼 🧼 Swapping out the soap in your house is one of the easiest things you can do to lower your toxic load. 🤢Most soaps have toxic chemicals (if it says anti-bacterial, that’s a red flag) that can cause hormone imbalances as well as fragrance and perfumes that can increase allergies, skin sensitivities, and your toxic load. 🤔Think about how many times you wash your hands, dishes, and/or body. 🤯I’m going to guess at the VERY absolute minimum…. 6 times? That is 6 different exposures to those chemicals in just one day. Times that by 7 days a week, 30 days a month..  😳You get it… it’s a lot! ✨Your skin is very absorbent and if you’re slathering chemicals on it multiple times a day you will increase your toxic load at a higher rate. ❓What’s toxic load?  ✨It’s how much our body’s can detox out before getting overwhelmed. #ad This week I was challenged by @freshmilkandmore to come up with an eco hack which involved a #simpleswap! SO I thought I’d share a simple swap we often make in my house, which saves on plastic, keeps harsh chemicals out of the kitchen and of COURSE involves a little foraging! It’s making our own soap from english ivy leaves! English ivy (as well as other plants like horse chestnut and soap nut) contains naturally occurring soapy chemical components called saponins. Extracting them, and using them to clean is an ancient practice that long pre-dates the production of harsh chemicals that pollute our waterways today. To make the soap, pick a small basketful of English ivy leaves, wash them, and add them to a pot with cold water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Then turn off the heat and allow the leaves to steep for 24 hours. Then, strain the leaves and decant the liquid into your old washing up bottle, or a glass jar! @freshmilkandmore has a £20 gift voucher to award to one of you guys for coming up with your own simpleswap! ✨Deodorant swaps ✨ I feel like majority of people have caught on to how toxic aluminum deodorant is… many people have switched to “natural deodorant”…. BUT have switched it out for another toxic deodorant 😩 I know, I know. Fighting greenwashing feels like a chore but I want to do my best to help you as much as I can ❤️ Some things to note about natural deodorant ⬇️ 1️⃣ Aluminum was placed in deodorant to help stop the sweat 🤯 We need to sweat!! It’s how we detox!! 2️⃣ When you’ve been using toxic deodorant for years and years, it WILL take an adjustment period (which can smell stinky) but that will go away! 3️⃣ One way to help is to detox those pits! Equal parts Bentonite clay + Apple Cidar Vinegar (quality ACV) can help pull out the toxins and help with the stinky, try about 3-4 times per week 4️⃣ Some people are sensitive to baking soda in their deodorants so just make sure to check the label if that’s you! Some ingredients I found in deodorants that you want to avoid 🙅🏼‍♀️: ❌ Aluminum ❌ Fragrance/parfum ❌ Natural fragrance (unless undisclosed) ❌ PEG/PPG ❌ Ethoxylated ingredients (ends in -eth) ❌ Propylene glycol ❌ BHT ❌ Mineral oil ❌ EDTA (not worrisome on its own but it’s usually mixed with other toxic ingredients) ❌ Artificial dyes ❌ Phenoxyethanol ❌ Phthalates ❌ Parabens Clean options ✅💃🏼 ✨ Primally Pure ✨ Little Seed Farm Organics ✨ Earthley (link in bio ❤️) ✨ Pit Liquor ✨ Attitude Living (they disclose their fragrance 👍🏻) ✨ Earth Mama Organics ✨ Truvani …. Of course there are other clean options out there!
