After so many questions about my long draw technique, we decided to shoot a little video for YouTube. This is an excerpt. Sitting in my favorite place in Colonial Williamsburg with my 18th century spinning wheel, this early spring evening couldn’t have been more idyllic. If you’ve ever used a drop spindle then you’ll know how important it is to keep the fiber out of the way to prevent it from becoming twisted around the spindle. One way to do this is with a distaff such as this one made by @angela.lynne.studios that is a modern take on a very ancient tool, because even thousands of years ago spinners needed a way to keep their extra fiber away from the spindle. I wonder if their distaffs had cute designs like this one! P.S. I’ve been answering your most asked spindle questions on my stories, so be sure to keep an eye out.
