How many hours are your feet squashed into shoes each day?! 👟 Shoes can weaken the muscles in the feet and reduce toe, foot & ankle mobility….and this can cause all sorts of chaos for the rest of the body! 😮‍💨 Going barefoot has completely changed the way I move, the way I build muscle, and makes injuries pretty much non existent…even through elite athletics training 💪🏼 Here are some of the crazy benefits: 1. BETTER FORM. Your body naturally finds better alignment & movements feel cleaner and more connected. After time, you’ll also improve strength & mobility (in your feet & further up the body) that supports balanced muscle development & better biomechanics. 2. IMPROVED BALANCE. Your entire foot can spread & provide a more stable base, plus connection to the ground though each toe helps improve proprioception. 3. LESS INJURIES. Strong & mobile feet support everything up the chain. Avoid overuse injuries (like shin splints & loaded achillies) & relieve hamstring tightness and lower back pain! 4. MORE POWER. Sprinting, jumping, lifting…the power from your glutes, quads, and hamstrings gets amplified through functional feet. 5. BETTER MOBILITY. Barefoot training not only improves strength & mobility in the feet but can also improve squat depth, increase hip hinge in your deadlift and open your running stride! Healthy feet = a healthier body. 🐌 REMEMBER TO START SLOOOWWWW… Do a barefoot walk at the park, or 5min of your warm up, or weight lifting only, before increasing the time and intensity. One of the easiest ways to check if your child’s shoes fit properly is to remove the insole and have them stand on it. If their foot hangs over the edge, the shoe is likely too short or too narrow, which means their toes will be squashed once it’s on. Ideally, you want about a thumb’s width of space between the longest toe and the end of the insole to allow for growth. This quick check can be done at home before school starts or in store when buying new shoes to make sure they fit comfortably and leave room for growing feet.
