March 27th is seven years since a drunk driver killed Stephen Fitzpatrick, Audun Laading and their manager Trevor Engelbrektson. A few hours after they had concluded their live performance in Phoenix, Arizona, they were driving to Santa Ana, California for the final leg of their second North American tour before returning to the United Kingdom when a drunk driver merged into their lane and fatally collided head-on with their van. Ste and Audun were two extraordinarily kind, genuine and outgoing people. They created their band ‘Hers’ in 2015. They were only beginning their music career, and had years of exploration, growth, and ambition that would have given them it all. I see people all the time discovering Her’s. Their loss still impacts people years after their time ended, because we all know they should be here, creating and loving. They were especially loved in their town of Liverpool. Neither of them were actually from there, but they met there and began placing their roots. They were noticed on streets and in bars because they were as good of people as they were musicians. Drunk driving kills, distracted driving kills and I pray people learn to stop getting behind the wheel when impaired. Even if you know the road, even if home is close. Dont drive drunk. @friendsofthatband is a fund created in loving memory of Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading.   Overseen by their families and friends, the fund’s work will take place in Liverpool where Ste and Audun met, lived, and created Her’s.   Principally, the focus of the fund will involve providing support to those affected by homelessness in the city centre, which was an issue of importance to both Ste and Audun.   An initial project is in development with the aim of teaching transferable creative skills that can be used as a vehicle for self-expression, connection, and inclusion.

𝘏𝘦𝘳’𝘴 was a Liverpool-based indie pop duo consisting of Stephen Fitzpatrick and Audun Laading, known for their “crank-pop” or “oddball pop” sound blending slacker rock and dream pop with humorous lyrics. The band formed in Liverpool and released their debut compilation “Songs of Her’s” in 2017, followed by their full-length album “Invitation to Her’s” in 2018. Tragically, both members, along with their tour manager, were killed in a wrong-way car crash in Arizona in March 2019 while on tour. Stephen Fitzpatrick handled lead vocals, guitar, and drum machine programming, while Audun Laading played bass guitar, sang backing vocals, and also did drum machine programming. Their music featured dreamy, atmospheric tunes with influences of surf rock, British indie, and slacker rock. Their songs were known for their melancholic yet tender lyrics, often incorporating a quirky, surreal sense of humor. Probably their most popular song, “What Once Was” has a syncopation between the drums and bass guitar that’s absolutely addictive, along with relatable lyrics that’ll gut-punch your soul.
