Natibu and Korbessa are the most competitive members of our Kaluku herd and turn every meal into a race. Natibu, who is as leggy as Korbessa is stout, wins handily — but not content with an easy victory, he devises all sorts of tricks to siphon everyone else’s milk, too. Korbessa is no pushover and determinedly finishes her bottle, then sees whether Natibu has any leftover milk on his face that she might enjoy. Two can play this game!

Beef stew:
2 1/2 lbs chuck, cut into 1" cubes
1 ea onion
3-4 carrots
8 cloves garlic
6 springs thyme
1/4 cup AP flour
1 1/2 cups wine, stout or other tasty liquid
1 qt beef stock, plus more, if needed
Garnish with parsley and serve with piles of mashed potatoes!

CHThis is probably the best thing you’re gonna put in your mouth around St. Patrick’s Day. Do not question me on this. This is my aunt Guinness cake recipe. I’ve been eating this all my life growing up in Ireland. It is truly one of the best things that you made.
Guinness Raisin Brown Bread
Ingredients
1 stick unsalted Irish butter
1½ cups brown sugar
8 ounces Guinness
1½ cups golden raisins
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 large eggs
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a cast iron pan.
Place the butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan over low heat. Melt the butter and stir until the sugar begins to dissolve.
Pour in the Guinness and stir to combine.
Add the golden raisins. Simmer gently for 3 minutes.
Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
In a large bowl whisk together the all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and baking soda.
Pour the Guinness mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
Add the eggs one at a time and mix until a thick batter forms.
Pour the batter into the prepared cast iron pan.
Bake for about 1 hour, until the bread is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let cool slightly before slicing. Serve with good Irish butter.
