ROAncient craft, future form. Opening in 2029, Bhutan’s new international airport will serve as the gateway to Gelephu Mindfulness City @gmcbhutan, designed by @big_builds with @arupgroup and Cistri.
Built from modular mass timber frames shaped like a mountain range, the low-carbon structure is both flexible and expandable – ready to grow from 1.3 million annual passengers in 2040 to 5.5 million by 2065. Inside, every timber member is carved and painted by Bhutanese artisans, adorned with dragons symbolising past, present, and future, merging "Shing-Zo" carpentry and "Par-Zo" carving with advanced engineering.

JAHear from master carpenter Abo Akinori as he introduces the life-sized structural model of a teahouse on display in The Craft of Carpentry exhibition.
Created by Abo around a decade ago, the structure is based on Sa-an, a well-known teahouse originally constructed in 1742 at Gyokurin-in, a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji. It has toured to Finland, China, Poland, and France, among other locations.

CHLocated in Baltimore MD, the first heavy timber office building is rising in Canton.
40TEN will be a four-story 97,000 SF structure that will be constructed primarily with timber rather than steel or concrete. By using heavy timber, the pieces are prefabricated and shipped in segments of instillation that can be assembled on site.
This method of construction reduces the cost of building foundation and leaves a smaller carbon footprint than other materials that are typically used.
CCG is proud to be working on this project along with Moseley Architects and Structure Craft.
