Trail Update — Bryce Canyon National Park
Good news if you have a trip coming up in the near future.
The Navajo Loop Trail switchbacks have been repaired and reopened as of March 13, 2026 after temporary mudslide damage along the Two Bridges section in late February. It’s back open!
The Wall Street side remains under its normal winter closure, which happens every year due to rockfall and ice risk, so the full loop still isn’t accessible until that seasonal closure lifts.
This is the iconic trail with the famous Bryce Canyon switchbacks that many visitors pair with Queen’s Garden.
A lot of the coverage around this closure got pretty sensational saying “gone forever” or “deleted”— but in reality it was a temporary safety closure while crews repaired the trail in less than two weeks. Which isn’t unheard of for this trail. 😵💫
As always, check the latest conditions with the National Park Service before heading out.

THIt is such a privilege to be able to do this.
This trail is the Val Ferret section of the Tour de Montblanc in Courmayeur Italy. It’s probably my favorite trail that I’ve been on in the Alps.
The initial part is a ferocious climb on switchbacks, but then it opens up to views on views on views!

PTMost people leave Canyonlands National Park the same way they came in… but there’s actually a wild backroad that takes you all the way to Moab.
It’s called Shafer Trail, and it drops over 1,500 feet from Island in the Sky down a series of dramatic cliffside switchbacks.
At the bottom, the trail connects to Potash Road, which follows the Colorado River back toward Moab.
Instead of the normal highway drive, you get towering canyon walls, desert scenery, and one of the most unforgettable drives in Utah. The total drive is about 40-45 miles and half of it is off road/dirt road.
A few important things to know:
• You need a high-clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle (according to NPS)
• The road is narrow with steep drop-offs in places
• Rain can make it impassable
• Always check conditions (or talk to someone at the visitor center) before attempting it
It’s easily one of the coolest ways to exit Canyonlands.

Let’s talk about one of the more intimidating moves in mountain biking: steep, technical downhill switchbacks. 😳⛰️
🎯 Staying WITH the front end is key. Too often, riders get nervous and back away from the front of their bikes, basically saying: “You go first, bike!” 🙃🤷♀️
😅 When you back off, your front wheel can sneak away from you - especially on chunk or steep terrain - and pull you down the hill instead of helping you carve around it. That’s a recipe for losing control. 😬
💡 Here’s what to think about:
✅ Stay balanced over the bike - weight the feet, chin over stem - even if it feels steep. You want your chest to follow your hands, not hover behind them.
✅ Look where you want to go! Head and eyes up, scanning through the turn. 👀
✅ Use your brakes wisely: Light modulation, mostly rear brake, especially as you approach the turn. Ease off a bit in the middle to allow the bike to roll. 🛑➡️
✅ Steer and lean the bike, twist your body to face where you’re headed. Notice how my body stays taller in the legs - not super squatted - for better balance. 🤸♀️
✅ Commit to the turn with hips going around the outside of the bike and shoulders following through. 💃
➡️🚲 Remember: The bike goes where your body and energy tell it to. If you pull away, it can’t do its job.
🔥 Pro Tip: Practice slow-speed balance and front-end confidence on flat ground and mellow turns first, then level up to steeps!
