📖Dolphin Tale is an inspiring true story about the incredible bond between a lonely boy and a dolphin whose resilience captured the hearts of the world.
The film follows Sawyer Nelson, a shy and introverted 11-year-old boy who is struggling in school and feeling disconnected from those around him. While biking near the Florida coast, he discovers a bottlenose dolphin tangled in a crab trap, which has severely cut off the circulation to her tail.
Sawyer calls for help, and the dolphin—later named Winter—is taken to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, run by dedicated veterinarian Dr. Clay Haskett. Despite their best efforts, Winter’s tail is too damaged and must be amputated to save her life. While dolphins normally need their tails to swim and survive, Winter’s sheer will to live inspires Sawyer to visit her daily, sparking a deep friendship that brings the boy out of his shell.
However, a new problem arises: without a tail, Winter begins to swim with a side-to-side motion that is damaging her spine. To save her, Sawyer reaches out to Dr. Cameron McCarthy, a brilliant prosthetics designer at a local VA hospital. Together, they embark on a groundbreaking experiment to create a prosthetic tail for Winter. Facing financial ruin for the aquarium and technical setbacks with the prosthetic, the community rallies together for "Save Winter Day," proving that with a little hope and a lot of teamwork, the impossible can happen.
