SMThatching straw harvest underway earlier than ever the past few years has been mid July start, 20 years ago we were cutting in early August but when its ready you have to go.
Thatching straw is harvested when still slightly green to give a tougher straw then dried on the shock before collecting and storing in the barn.
This would wait a few more days but rain forecast for the weekend and bad luck to start a job on a Friday.

The Attachment (0:00 - 0:05): Instead of a bucket, the excavator arm is fitted with a wide reciprocating sickle bar mower. It functions just like a giant hedge trimmer, slicing through the thick stems at the base with ease.
