With surface area, hands-on activities aren’t just a fun bonus… they’re a critical part of making the math click! I especially love creating nets on coordinate planes because students can see the square units. Once they fold the net and create the 3d figure, each SURFACE is covered in squares to help them see the total SURFACE AREA. Comment 3DNET if you’d like the link my hands-on surface area activities for 6th and 7th grade in my tpt store.

Here’s a math project for systems of equations that teachers LOVE! Why? Because… -Real world connections -Instant engagement with student creativity -The thinking and discussions Students work together to create their own city. They get to be creative, and they have to use parallel & perpendicular lines. Plus they use systems of equations to locate features in their new city. Be honest… how much time do you actually spend thinking about how to teach fractions? Here are 5 reasons fraction tiles should be a staple in your classroom👇🏼 ⭐️ Fraction tiles help students see that fractions are real numbers with size, not just rules to memorize. ⭐️ When students build fractions with tiles, they discover what the denominator actually means instead of being told. ⭐️Tiles let students see why fractions greater than one make sense, which builds confidence early in the unit. ⭐️Using tiles helps students understand fraction addition because they’re combining equal pieces, not guessing a rule. ⭐️Fraction tiles invite student talk, reasoning, and explanations - which is where the real learning happens in a CGI classroom. 📌 If you’re a teacher looking for math tips, activities, & resources you’re in the right place. New resource! Comment “geometry” for the link! The “Here is the model… what is the?” routine was designed to flip the traditional sequence of instruction often present in math classrooms. Students begin with a model and are asked to determine what mathematical question it might represent. They explore how the model works, compare interpretations, and justify their thinking. Only later do we formalize the mathematics, not as something new, but as a progression of understanding. This shift changes what it means to use models in the inquiry math classroom. Models are no longer tools to help students get through the math. They are the way students come to understand what the math is. #math #mathteacher #teacher #geometry #inquiry

Representing fractions (including fractions greater than one!) in multiple ways is a must. This sort is one of my favorite go-to practice activities—area models, number lines, mixed numbers, and fractions greater than one (Georgia doesn’t use improper fraction). Perfect for fractions units and test prep season! #fractions #mathismyjam

Fractions feel hard… Until kids can actually see them. 👀 Most children don’t struggle with fractions. They struggle with how fractions are introduced. Numbers on a page. Rules to memorize. Steps to copy. But fractions are not rules. They are parts of something real. 🟡 When your child physically combines pieces… they start noticing patterns. Two fourths feels the same as one half. Three thirds makes a whole. They are discovering equivalence without anyone saying the word. 🧠 That’s the difference. Less memorizing. More understanding. If homework around fractions feels frustrating lately… try making it visible first. Comment MATH and I’ll send you our free math mini lessons + simple parent guides you can use at home ✨
