That’s a race condition. Whoever writes last wins. ⚙️ WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TECHNICALLY Suppose: balance = 100 balance = balance + 10 This looks like one step. But internally it’s: 1️⃣ Read value 2️⃣ Add 10 3️⃣ Write value If two threads execute simultaneously: They both read same old value They both overwrite each other Data gets corrupted. 🚨 WHY SHARED MEMORY IS DANGEROUS Because threads: • Share heap memory • Access same variables • Execute independently If execution order changes → Output changes. That’s non-deterministic behavior. Worst kind of bug. 🔒 HOW WE FIX IT We use synchronization tools: • Mutex (Lock) • Semaphore • Monitor • Atomic operations Lock ensures: Only one thread modifies data at a time. But… Too many locks → Deadlocks. Engineering is balance. 🧠 REAL ENGINEER INSIGHT Race condition isn’t about speed. It’s about timing. When outcome depends on execution order → You have a race. 🎯 INTERVIEW FLEX LINE A race condition occurs when multiple threads access and modify shared memory concurrently, and the final result depends on the unpredictable timing of execution.
