While caught in looking at media and “perfect” rep videos - many feel like there is no place for basics and beginner level! ✅ So if you are just starting- lock in- do simple stuff really really well. ✅ give yourself a credit and work where you are ✅ do a little a lot not a lot a little ✅ consistency over perfection ✅ anything worthwhile doing takes time! I see this a lot with athletes when they come into our sessions! When they try to direct the ball somewhere they immediately start turning their wrists. A better way to manipulate the ball is to dip the entire platform and moves it as a unit. This keeps the platform straight on contact and allows you to move it better in the direction you want. Turning the wrist also implies they’re contacting too low on their platform - so it’s both tracking and platform mechanics. Ideally we want to contact on the sweet spot and keep the platform straight. But if they contact on the sweet spot but turn their wrists, it will change the angle of the platform and the ball won’t hit their platform accurately. So we make sure the platform is straight, that they move the platform with their elbows more so, and contact their sweet spot. While I always say anything can be a platform - as long as it’s behind and under in the right ratio you will get a good pass - and it can depend on the situation, but there a certain things that are ‘better’ than others with the goal to make it easier to control and more consistent. Passing in the sweet spot is one of them. Making sure the platform is straight and in the direction you want the ball to go is another. Nudging is another thing we’ll go over, but basically you want to nudge or give energy in the trajectory we want it to go. This is manipulation and we can also remove energy depending on what we want. A lot to it! Keep putting in the work 📈 I’ll have a more detailed vid on this on my YouTube soon! Ps. If you’ve worked with me, you know I rely on a handful of tools that I drill into my players so they’re better equipped to correct themselves mid practice or games. 1. Volleyball For Dummies (You’ve all seen the Dummies books; gardening, Shakespeare, poker etc) ↕️ To hit the ball DOWN, make contact on TOP ↔️ To hit the ball FORWARD, make contact on the BACK of the ball. From there, you can correct yourself. If you were trying to serve to zone 5 and your serve landed in zone 1, that’s an indication that you made contact in the right side of the ball to send it to the left, whereas if your serve goes sky high and doesn’t make it over that’s an indication you made contact on the very bottom of the ball revealing it was a bad toss (back to you or straight up and you walked beneath it) etc. 2. Timing Based on Contact ⏰ General rule of thumb: •If you contacted the ball with your finger tips, you’re EARLY •If you contacted the ball with the lower part of your palm to your wrist, you’re LATE • If you contact the ball with your entire OPEN hand, you’re right on time! 3. IF YOU CAN CATCH IT, ITS A BAD TOSS! ❌ Beginners learn to serve “toss, step, swing”. If you toss the ball straight up, you’ll wind up stepping underneath it and losing power as you swing to the sky as you’re fighting gravity. Instead, toss the ball slightly in front of you so that it would land right beyond your fingertips. This ensures that when you wake your step forward to shift your body weight into the ball, you’re more likely to power through ✅ #volleyball #girlsvolleyball #boysvolleyball #wavevolleyball #sandiego #sdliving #calilife #explore #fyp

📢 *** NEW DRILL DROP *** 🔹️ BLOCKING (PARTNERS) DRILLS (Basic level)🔹️ 🔹️ 6 drills progression to cover bacic principle of blocking, such as hands positioning, footwork, eye sequence and pressing Blocking is one of the most underrated skills in volleyball. Having players understand basic principles of blocking, at young age is key for future success. 🔹️ Drills explanation: 1 - Hands placement. Learning proper hand positioning on the ball. 2 or 3 rounds, each round players are jumping quicker from the ground 2 - Medicine ball drill. 6lb Med ball to ensure players are having strong core while jumping, additional weight makes having hamds over the net, little harder to do. (12lb might be too heavy for young players, at the beginning) 3 - "Blocking balls" Player that is blocking always jumps from same place. She is looking where balls are moved by partner and adjust her block by only moving her arms and placing hands on top of balls 4 - Seperating hands Same concept like Drill 3, but now partner are seperating cushion balls randomly. Blocker is watching and learning to block balls with both arms "independently" 5 - Footwork + Hand Placement Simmilar like Drill 1, but this time blocker is moving from side to side after every block, then making priper block on every volleyball 6 - Pressing Player on the box gently pushing the ball forward once blocker place her hands on the ball. Blocker is PRESSING and not allowing her partner to push her back. Strong core, good hand placement are must before we press THANK YOU for watching!
