FAIf you want bigger airs, it all comes down to what you do right before you pop off the wave—and that’s loading your front foot. 💥
As you approach the lip, don’t stay neutral or lean back. Shift your weight forward onto your front foot heavily, and compress down through your legs. Think of it like loading a spring. Your board is about to store all that energy, but only if you actually put pressure into it.
Right at the base of the lip:
• Drive through your front foot
• Stay low and compact
• Keep your chest slightly over your front knee
This does two huge things:
1. It keeps the board engaged with the wave so you don’t lose speed
2. It loads the rail and fins, giving you real upward pop instead of just floating off the lip
Then as you hit the top of the lip, extend and release that pressure. That’s what sends you up—not just riding off the wave, but actually projecting into the air.
Most people miss this and try to jump with no pressure or tension, which kills their height and control.
No front foot load = no real air.
Load it, release it, and that’s when you start going BIG 🚀
