THFrankly, vanilla cake doesn’t have to be borzo (boring). My updated vanilla cake uses the hot milk method which I swear by. It gently cooks the flour before I goes in the oven and locks in the moisture. I’m going to be turning it into a bunch of different cake flavors in the next couple weeks starting with my new lamington layer cake which I think will be ready tomorrow! His final words, “Welcome to the layer cake, son,” make it clear. Craig isn’t escaping, he’s only just begun.
This scene reflects a deeper truth about ambition and power. In any game, crime, business, or life itself, there’s always a system where those at the bottom struggle while those at the top stay insulated. The climb may bring success, but it also brings consequences. The question is: are you really in control, or just moving up another level of the game?

RU🌍🍰 Around The World In 80 Cakes - British Victoria Sponge 🍰🌍
After another brief little stint away (happy new year btw!), I am finally back in business and ready to make a slow and steady plod through the rest of the list. 27 down, another 53 to go 😅
In at 54, we have a Victoria Sponge - a classic British sandwich cake. It’s a no fuss, no frills sort of cake, which makes it a perfect beginner bake butttt I just think in a world full of Princess Cakes, Dream Cakes & Love Cakes…a Viccy Sponge is just a bit so so 😬
There’s lots I would do differently next time:
• When using butter in cakes, I normally opt for a baking margarine as it has the best of both butter and oil in it meaning a light, fluffy but moist sponge
• Switch the caster sugar to golden
• Scrap the vanilla extract because it’s so meh and go with the good stuff vanilla bean paste ALWAYS
• Switch up the SR flour for a blend of 150 g ‘00’ Flour, 50 g Potato Starch & 2 tsp Baking Powder
• Drench the sponges in a simple syrup as this cake leans towards dry. 150 ml Water, 125 g Caster Sugar and zest of 1 lemon for a bit of freshness
• Add a touch of sweetness to the double cream filling with 10 g Icing Sugar & 1/2 tsp Vanilla Bean Paste
• Forgo all this and just buy one from the shops as the packaged ones from most supermarkets taste better (imo 😬)
The below is one of the top rated recipes by a fairly well known (👀) British chef who i wont’t name and tag as I’ve obliterated it in the video but to give this a go, you’ll need:
200 g Unsalted Butter, room temp
200 g Caster Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
4 Medium Eggs
200 g Self Raising Flour
140 g Raspberry/Strawberry Jam
250 ml Double Cream
Icing Sugar, to dust
You can find a super quick method in the comments below but I’ll be sending this out alongside my (superior) version of a viccy sponge in the newsletter tomorrow (🔗👆🏽)
