In this procedure, surgeons take tendons from your hamstring muscles: • Usually Semitendinosus ± Gracilis tendon • These tendons are folded to create a strong new ligament ⚙️ Procedure Steps 1. Anesthesia – General or spinal 2. Graft Harvesting – Hamstring tendon taken from back of thigh 3. Arthroscopy – Small camera inserted into knee 4. Tunnel Creation – Holes drilled in femur & tibia 5. Graft Placement – New ligament inserted 6. Most athletes believe an ACL tear means one thing: Reconstruction. 12 months of rehab. And hoping your knee is never the same again. That’s the narrative most athletes are given. But my story took a different path. At 13 years old, I tore my first ACL - my left knee. Full rupture. Full reconstruction. A few years later my brother tore his ACL too. Then at 18, it happened again. This time my right knee. Another full ACL rupture. Another reconstruction. The following year… my brother tore his other ACL. By this point ACL injuries had almost become normal in our world.But deep down I started asking questions: Why are these injuries so common? Why do so many athletes re-tear? And why do so many never feel the same again? Years later, history repeated itself. I ruptured my ACL graft. My third ACL tear. But this time something changed. Within 24 hours I started diving deep into the research. I wanted to understand the mechanics of resilient knees. What I discovered was simple: The ACL is important. But it is not the only thing that stabilises the knee.. So I approached my rehab differently. I was diving into unfamiliar territory. I trained relentlessly. Others doubted me. I strengthened every structure around the knee. Restored strength in deep knee flexion. Trained force absorption. I did everything to build a bulletproof knee. Twelve weeks after a full ACL and MCL rupture, I returned to sport, back playing footy. Not cautiously. Competing. Pivoting. Cutting. Full impact. 5 years on I continue to compete in football and sport with no ACL and no instability. NO hiccups to date. If anything, that knee now feels stronger than the reconstructed one. Over the past few years I’ve dedicated my coaching to helping athletes rebuild their knees- both surgically and non-surgically. This mission is bigger than just rehab. I want to change the way athletes think about ACL injuries. Over the next 12 months my mission is simple: Help over 100 athletes return to sport and compete at a high level with no ACL.
