💔 Immediately After the Breakup:
The dismissive avoidant may appear unbothered and emotionally detached—even if they initiated the breakup. They’re likely to suppress their emotions, avoid talking about it, and distract themselves with work, hobbies, or casual dating. They’ll also think of all the superficial reasons in the world why it was the right thing to do. Their self-protective instinct is to push away pain and convince themselves they never needed the relationship in the first place.
⏳ Six Months Later:
By now, the initial relief of “freedom” has worn off. If they truly cared, they may start to feel an emotional void—but struggle to process it. They might reminisce about the relationship but rationalize why it wouldn’t have worked. Some may reach out, but only in a casual, detached way, avoiding deeper emotional conversations.
🔄 Two Months After That (8 Months Post-Breakup):
At this stage, after they’ve reconnected with their ex partner, they may start to feel deeper emotions again, but instead of facing them, they’ll start stressing again about having their independence taken and they’ll start giving the same reasons why it just won’t work, that they gave in the first place. If they’re healing, this is when they may start to acknowledge the role their emotional walls played in the breakup and they may start seeking ways to do and be better.
✨ Healing tip: The dismissive avoidant heals when they stop running from emotional discomfort and allow themselves to feel, process, and seek secure connections.

The kind where nothing is technically “wrong,” but you’re rereading texts, analyzing tone shifts, and wondering if you’re being intuitive or just “activated.”😬
The kind where you tell yourself,
“I’m probably overthinking this.”
(While very much overthinking this.)🤯
What I’ve learned both personally and through years of working with women, is that anxiety usually isn’t the first problem. ❌
🚩It shows up after we’ve already talked ourselves out of what we feel.
🚩After we give something more time than we actually want to.
🚩After we explain away a subtle sense of unease.
🚩After we convince ourselves we’re being mature, patient, or evolved… when really, we’re just overriding ourselves.
We become our OWN red flag 🚩
I did this too. 🤷♀️
➡️Even while being self-aware.
➡️Even while “doing the work.”
❌My anxiety wasn’t random.
It was my nervous system saying,
“Hey… you left yourself back there.”🫣
Rude.🙄
But accurate. 💯
