There’s multiple variables to consider when deciding on ad volume, one of the financial measures we uncover is the cost to create. This gives insight into the impact and profitability of creating ads. Based on the findings, this can play a part in decisions around ad volume, but largely as a founder it helps you understand a very important cost in your business, the cost to create. If you are creating ads for your own business, the cost to create is large, it is your time. If you are paying an agency to create ads, the question becomes what does it cost, not just as a monthly retainer, but per ad created and deployed, and how this compares against their ability to generate revenue through what they create. For example, two agencies might charge the same. One creates one amazing ad that generates thousands of dollars. The other creates 20 ads that generate nothing. The second agency has a lower cost to create per ad, and because they are producing more creatives, from afar it seems like the better deal, this is perceived value. But the issue is they are optimising for volume, not for what is best for the account, and despite having a lower cost to create, they are unprofitable because their 20 ads generated no revenue. The first agency, although creating less, is focused on outcomes and is ultimately more profitable. And this is where most people get it wrong. They optimise for how much is being created, not for what is actually driving results. So start understanding the cost to create ads for your business, and more importantly, how that cost translates into revenue. Because more ads does not simply mean more performance, and a lower cost to create does not simply mean a better outcome.
