Did you know these Atami-zakura have a pretty cool history? They were actually brought over from Italy/India via ship back in 1871! 🚢
Since then, they’ve become a symbol of Atami’s early spring. Because they have two different stages of blooming on the same tree, you can enjoy them for a much longer period than usual—about a whole month!

FL🌸 Sakura is blooming now!
🥰 In Atami, the Atami Cherry Blossoms, with their vivid deep pink colour, usually bloom from January. In addition, from March the Someiyoshino cherry trees are also at their best, so you can enjoy two cherry blossom viewing seasons in Atami from winter to early spring.
😚 The Atami cherry tree is said to have been introduced to Atami by Italians in the early Meiji period (1868-1912), along with lemon and date palms. It is characterised by its very early flowering, which is almost the same time as the Kanhizakura (scarlet cherry blossom) in Okinawa, which blooms in January.
🤗 The beautiful Atami cherry blossoms, with their large individual flowers and deep pink colour, give visitors to Atami a slightly early taste of spring.
👀 The Atami Sakura Itokawa Cherry Blossom Festival takes place when the Atami cherry trees are in bloom. The festival is held mainly along the Itokawa River promenade, which runs through the centre of Atami City, and is filled with street performances, bands playing music and other events.
