Hey Sydney folk … on Wednesday at @gleebooks I’m chatting with the great Judith Brett about her new book, Fearless Beatrice Faust. It is - typically of Judith - a terrific read but also such a fascinating account of the greatest shit stirrers in Australian history. Come and join us - 6 for 6.30 I’m told. And get into the book, even if ya can’t come along!

On this government's watch, more than 12,000 Australians—many nearing retirement—are facing over a billion dollars in losses from their super following the collapse of First Guardian and Shield. This is the biggest failure in Australian history. It happened under Labor, and they've been asleep at the wheel since. That's not what protecting your superannuation looks like. I've met some of these people. These aren't rich people. These aren't wealthy people. I've met a detective from Queensland. I've met members of the Save Our Super group like Melinda Kee; Peter Spencer-Franks, a bus driver; Brad Waterman; Denise Cocquyt, a teacher; and Mike Poland, who I met last week in Perth. They've lost everything. On a personal note to them: thank you for coming to see me to tell me your story. ASIC was warned about First Guardian back in 2019 but took years to take any serious action. Later they raised concerns about Shield with Macquarie but failed to tell the other platforms about it. That silence led to super losses that could have been avoided. And what has the Treasurer done? Absolutely nothing. This government has overseen the biggest superannuation failure in history, left Australians exposed by allowing ASIC's enforcement shortcomings to go unchecked and looked for ways to raid your super themselves. Australians deserve better. Read my full speech here: https://bit.ly/yoursuperyourmoney #yoursuperyourmoney #governmentfailure #asicfailure #australiansdeservebetter #superannuationprotection

Today the Albanese Government gave final approval for the North West Shelf extension, one of the largest fossil fuel projects in Australian history, locking in huge quantities of gas exports until 2070. The scale of this project is jaw-dropping. Over its lifetime, it will release around 4.4 billion tonnes of CO₂, roughly ten times Australia’s current annual emissions. This is an act of climate vandalism. It will harm the climate we pass on to future generations and undermine Australia’s ability to set a strong 2035 emissions reduction target, which I expect will be set next week. Labor has now approved 31 fossil fuel projects since 2022. This relentless expansion of the fossil fuel industry is at odds with the science and with what Australians voted for.

If Labor won’t act on the Robodebt Royal Commission recommendations, the Greens will make them. This week we introduced a bill into the Senate to reinstate a six-year limit on debt recovery, introduce a duty of care, and prevent harmful decisions being made without human oversight. It’s clear that our broader social services system is designed to degrade people. To grind them down and to leave them hopeless and trapped. To keep everyone else who has a job scared and compliant. But at least by implementing the Royal Commission recommendations we can go some way to preventing a repeat of this dark chapter of Australian history.

💡 Did you know Australia doesn’t actually have an inheritance tax? Sounds great, right? Well… not exactly. 👀 Here’s the catch — your superannuation could still be taxed when it’s passed on. If your super goes to a non-dependent (like your adult kids), the government can take up to 17% in super death benefit tax. 💸 And with one of the biggest wealth transfers in Australian history happening right now, this is something you can’t afford to ignore. 🎧 Want to protect your family’s wealth and avoid costly mistakes? 👉 Comment “inheritance” below, and we’ll send you the podcast episode that explains everything you need to know about inheritance tax in Australia.

50 years ago today, the Governor-General acted within his reserve powers to dismiss a government that couldn’t pass its own supply bills. Despite what Labor might say, Sir John Kerr’s decision was both constitutional and necessary. A Prime Minister who could not fund his own government or face the people left no other choice. The people had their say soon after, delivering the biggest win in Australian history to the Liberal Party. Our democracy wasn’t broken that day. It was working exactly as it was meant to. Today I introduced my Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Responding to Robodebt) Bill 2025. It’s been two years since the Royal Commission, and shamefully we are yet to see any meaningful legislative change that would genuinely stop such a catastrophic failure of government administration happening again. Well, I’ve done the work with Economic Justice Australia, joined by Dr Helen Haines MP, who seconded the Bill, and Greens Senator Penny Allman-Payne, who is tabling a similar bill in the Senate. We urge this Federal Government to come to the table on these reforms. We cannot allow a repeat of this shameful part of Australian history.

Only Labor will make it easier for you to buy a home of your own. 🏠 We’ve started the largest home build in Australian history – because more homes mean more affordable housing. We’ve extended the Home Guarantee Scheme, which has helped over 200,000 home buyers into a home sooner with smaller deposits. And we’ve passed Help to Buy laws, which will deliver lower deposits and smaller mortgages for thousands of first-time home buyers.

Chapter 8 @saltash__farm The weather is wrecking havoc on our building with a leak in the main skylight and a couple of windows lost to hail. But when it rains… seek shelter elsewhere. Let us take you to @heatherbrae1854. Heatherbrae was built in Caulfield, Melbourne in 1854. Julie and Vince are close to finishing the first stage of their immaculate renovation of the 20 room mansion. They have done a lot of the work themselves and it’s truly extraordinary. It’s a long episode this one but absolutely worth it to peek inside this unique slice of Australian history. You can read more about where we are up to with our build on @realestateaus too.

3 years later and we are still yet to witness our government take real action. We’ve had the same Labor MP for 20 years, and despite our region experiencing one of the worst climate-fueled disasters in Australian history, she has stood by while her government approved 32 new coal and gas projects. 🎥 This footage is from the documentary 'See Mandy Run' by Brett Stevens.
