MANos últimos dias, eu tenho lido avaliações que me deixam indignada... 😔
Crianças sem diagnóstico, famílias perdidas, profissionais que erram, não por maldade, mas por despreparo. E quem mais sofre com tudo isso são as crianças. São elas que ficam sem apoio, sem escuta, sem plano.
Autismo não é pra ser tratado no “achismo”. É um campo que exige preparo, estudo, atualização constante, e, acima de tudo, responsabilidade. Por isso, eu estou aqui. Todos os dias, às 13h, ao vivo no Instagram. Trazendo casos reais, abrindo conversa e mostrando caminhos possíveis pra quem cuida de uma criança atípica.
Se você é mãe, pai, cuidador ou profissional: vem comigo. A gente precisa, e pode, fazer diferente.

SIIt may seem like a small thing but if you think about what it means to have a speaking child who can use words to share an array of emotions… contrast that with a kid who is feeling all the things but lacks the ability to use spoken language. What joy that he can tell us exactly what he finds yummy- not just eating to eat, but letting us know he finds this croissant particularly yummy.
I’m not going to lie, when we were introduced to AAC devices we didn’t get it. Let me simplify this- it’s most often just an iPad with software on it. There are different apps- we’re currently using #Proloquo2Go The first few months were frustrating- how was this going to help us, why was it so complicated, wouldn’t this make him dependent and less prone to speaking??
But I’ll admit I was wrong. Little man navigates through this thing finding words I didn’t even know were on there. When we do songs, he’ll tap through as many of the words as he can match. Just cos he doesn’t speak, doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand.
Even better, he sometimes not only touches the word, he mouths along with it- effectively increasing moments when we actual hear him speak.
I still hope for a time when we don’t need this, but the alternative wasn’t good for him or us. All the Frustration as we tried to guess what he was trying to share. We try to never leave home without this and while we could load the software to other devices, we’ve been advised that it’s best to have just one dedicated device that only serves as his communication device as opposed to a tablet for watching cartoons/playing games. It may be an imperfect tool but it’s a very useful one.

CAWhen Christmas morning gets a bit much for both of you ❤️. Figuring out what Nora needs in moments of overwhelm has been an important part of showing her that she is understood, and co-regulation has been integral to that process. While we have had to learn and work on what helps in some situations and not in others, for her it comes so naturally to comfort at the same time as being comforted and somehow reflect that safety of being seen 🥰
Nora loves every person who is important to her in the way they were always meant to be loved. She will look at you and you will know, without doubt, there is no way she could love you more than she does. Not if you were funnier or smarter, not if you were a bit less this or a bit more that… just you, entirely as you are ❤️
It is a privilege beyond words to be loved like that, and the smallest ask in the world to love her just the same 💕

SIBeware of Generalities and platitudes. And what a drab future we have in store. Autism is a spectrum and I am aware that it doesn’t look the same for everyone… some situations are indeed extremely challenging but I believe in hope and not this dreadful, filled with despair and sadness (super limited) version. Regardless of the challenges, regardless of how hard it can be, this will never be it.
That’s why awareness is important. I want to say more but I’ll just leave it here for now. For my sanity.
Adding here from stories: if you misrepresent or don’t properly understand/frame the issues, you can’t create or support adequate programs and services. If autistic people have no hope, no lives, nothing to look forward to- how does that frame the solutions this administration will be seeking and promoting?

I’ve seen this happen on too many occasions.
My sweet little girl walks up to some other kids and ask them to be her friend.
Every once in a while, the child or a group of kids will say sure and off they go, and that’s a happy day.
But more often than I like, I see a couple kids look at each other with a look that says we’re not interested or just say “no”.
And I know they don’t owe her anything but then she might try to insert herself in their play and she doesn’t understand what’s happening and it’s just so heartbreaking to watch.💔
