The FAS team, comprising Dr. Tapas S. Modak (@taps.modak) (Project Manager), Kristy Saikia (Research Officer), and Dr. Sherry Rachel Jacob (Project Collaborator), visited the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, major ICAR institutes and state agricultural universities in Odisha, ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), ICAR-Central Institute of Women in Agriculture (CIWA), and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), which have collaborated with CGIAR centres in the state, as well as International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and WorldFish. The visit aimed to meet with senior scientists and scholars, gather their valuable insights, and collect relevant documents on CGIAR-related innovations in the state of Odisha. The interactions with the distinguished scholars and senior scientists provided critical insights into the established partnerships between the CGIAR centres, the agriculture department, and the ICAR institutes. The AICRP-BC, Division of Entomology, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K Shalimar organized a material distribution-cum-scientist–farmer interaction programme at KVK Balapora, Shopian on March 10, 2026, sponsored by ICAR–NBAIR Bengaluru. Prof. Akhtar Ali Khan (Head, Division of Entomology, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K) highlighted the importance of eco-friendly pest management through biological control, while Prof. Zaffar Afroz Badri (Head, KVK Shopian) encouraged farmers to adopt scientific pest management practices. Dr. Sajad Mohi-ud-Din (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Mudasir Gani (Co-Principal Investigator) delivered presentations on integrated pest management in apple and other crops. Under the ICAR-NBAIR Tribal Sub-Plan, knapsack sprayers, pheromone traps and neem oil were distributed among 35 tribal farmers to promote sustainable agriculture.

Authority: Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Update: Lok Sabha (March 24, 2026) Key Highlights: 🔹 Selective Focus: 100 districts have been identified based on low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and limited access to institutional credit. 🔹 Grassroots Planning: District Action Plans are being prepared by local committees under District Collectors to address region-specific agricultural challenges. 🔹 Power of Convergence: The scheme integrates 36 Central schemes across 11 departments, including MIDH and RKVY, ensuring a whole-of-government approach. 🔹 Modern Infrastructure: Emphasis on developing climate-resilient assets such as micro-irrigation systems and storage infrastructure at Panchayat and Block levels. 🔹 Direct Monitoring: Central Nodal Officers are deployed for real-time monitoring, field inspections, and performance evaluation. 🔹 Core Objective: Enhancing farmer income by ensuring efficient utilization of water, seeds, and credit resources.
