MAI took the @candelaboats electric foil boat for a test drive and the moment of lifting off truly felt like I was taking flight. The sensation of floating above the water in silence was the most peaceful experience I’ve ever felt while travelling on water. Once up on foil, the boat then becomes 95% more energy efficient than when the hull is in the water. I’m looking forward to bringing my water ski out next time for some wakeless turns.

I asked my followers for topic suggestions earlier today and one of them asked me what my favorite boat names are. I have a few that I thought I’d share, some specific to me, some more generic. Let me know what you think.
Tumblehome - This is a great name for a Downeaster or any classic build that has the eponymous design feature. Tumblehome on a boat is the inward curve of the hullsides towards to the boat’s transom. It’s a very old design trait that was invented to make warships harder to board by enemies. It also helped deflect cannonballs. It’s also just a really cool word that for me evokes both fun and safety, two hugely important traits for any boat.
Nighthound – This one is specific to me. My daughter’s name means “the night” in Arabic and my son’s name means “lover of hounds” in Gaelic, so this is a mix of the two. I picture whatever boat this would be to have a dark hull.
Overhook – This is for my Bayliss. In grappling an overhook is a type of clinch that I use quite often. The double entendre would be that the boat sits over fishing hooks. I used to think I’d name a sportfish “Bad Fish” after the Sublime song, but as I’ve matured I’ve realized that maybe naming a boat after a song that’s an ode to crippling addictions wouldn’t be so cool. Although now that I say that out loud (considering how passionate people are about their boats and how expensive they are) maybe it works just fine.
Irish Wake – This would have to be something that does over 60 mph—likely a center console. I’m half Irish and have always identified with the culture.
Persistence – This would be my Lurssen. I think it’s a real stately and badass name for an enormous yacht, and also one of the most important traits a human can possess—and likely the one that would earn you a $500M yacht as well.
And oh by the way, that’s “Kismet” in the video. One of my favorite yacht names since I use that word all the time. She’s available for charter at $3M per week if your crypto game just went to the moon or something. Shoot me a DM and I’ll get you setup on her.
