ELJust finished a bee removal in Glendora, CA, and this one was quick and easy!
A tiny swarm had settled in, so I carefully scooped the honey bees by hand and placed them into a box, making sure they had plenty of space. As soon as they found their queen, they ran inside on their own!
I always keep the flap open so the bees have the choice to stay or relocate naturally. A stress-free bee rescue and another successful honey bee relocation! 🐝✨

BEMy heart if so full from doing the bee removal at Gloria Estefan’s home! The incomparable Miami music icon is such a lovely human. Her bees had been happily coexisting in this unique African tree pergola for years. With a Thanksgiving gathering this week and some family being anaphylactic from stings, the bees had to be relocated. What I wasn’t expecting was for Gloria to hang with us all day, peppering us with astute questions and comments about the removal and bees, and trading stories about Miami life and animal rescues. A champion of all furry, swimming, crawling and flying friends, we have that in common. I’ve been around famous folks before as a celebrity nanny for a few years in LA and I’ve not experienced the instant warmth, humor, ease and inclusion that Gloria naturally exudes. She’s amazing. In the removal we had some bee drama with robber bees from nearby hives fighting to steal the honey. The queen bee flew to safety in a tall tree followed by a swarm. My assistant Eddie and I were able to climb a ladder to catch the queen and swarm and by nightfall all bees moved to their new box. We took them off Star Island (sorry bees!) and headed to my home apiary. You can use a trap with an attractant or bait it with sugar water or juice. Place the trap downwind of any outdoor living area.
You should not try to remove the colony yourself unless you have experience and the proper equipment. You can also call a pest control company with experience in bee removal. However, pest control companies usually kill the bees before removing them.
Using wasp spray on honey bees is generally not effective because the bees will release a pheromone that signals other bees to attack.

CHVideo of a bee removal from an owl box in Austin. Big hive that had gotten so big they were building on the outside of the box - and they were real stingy too. But I was able to take the box down, open it up, get to the brood and babies and found the queen - we put it all back together at the homestead in Seguin. How was your Sunday?
