When your trainer (@suhan.khnofficial ) makes box jumps look like poetry in motion… and I end up looking like the blooper reel. 🤕✨ Getting back to workouts after summer is no joke. And here’s the truth: I’m not chasing “skinny” perfection or even flawless form. What I am chasing is consistency, safety, and the right guidance (thanks, Suhan 🙏🏽) Because the best flex isn’t the highest jump—it’s showing up, moving smart, and building strength that lasts. 💪🏼💫 How are you handling getting back into your workout routine? When we talk about jumping for bone density, box jumps tend to steal the spotlight. What often gets missed is what plyometrics are actually for. True plyometrics train reactivity, power and agility —
how quickly you can push off the floor, change direction, and respond to the ground. The bones still benefit — gravity is always doing its job —
but the real value is learning to be powerful, light, and nimble. That’s why plyometrics start with how you interact with the floor.

Box jumps can be intimidating! ✋ 1️⃣ Start small. Use a low box to nail your form and build confidence. 2️⃣ Load and explode. Use your arms and shoulders, not just your legs! 3️⃣ Don’t hesitate. Overthinking kills momentum. Take a breath, commit, and jump! 🚀

❗️Box jumps aren’t about how high you can pull your knees to your chest. Instead they’re about how high your body actually travels off the ground A lot of the “40 - 60 inch box jumps” you see online look impressive, but many of them are really just big knee tucks. If you bend your knees enough, you can land on a tall box without actually having a high vertical jump. True athleticism comes from triple extension: hips, knees, and ankles powerfully driving you upward. If you can jump, float in the air, and land on the box with minimal knee bend mid air, that tells me your body actually traveled high. That’s real vertical power! A 20-inch box jump with straight legs in the air is far more impressive than a 40 - inch jump where the knees are glued to the chest. One shows vertical power. The other shows flexibility and timing. Use box jumps to build power, not to chase fake numbers. It’s not about how high the box is but rather how high YOU get off the ground 💪 If this helped, drop a comment or share it with someone who loves chasing tall boxes 😅 #obeystrength #boxjump #drdavestrength #power #strengthtraining

“Box Jumps” are probably the most overrated and pointless exercise done endlessly in group classes around the world for 99% of EVERYDAY people Ok time to sound like a hater I know but Honestly! “But there are no bad exercises” Correct to some degree But there is choosing the appropriate exercise for the appropriate goal A box jump on a scale of “reward” for most people from a physical stand point is very very low comparatively to majority of other exercises to build strength and muscle in the lower body Want to get stronger? Do weights! Crazy right? “But it helps to expend calories? “ Correct… as does literally any type of exercise this does not mean it’s ideal or superior to the endless other forms of calorie output And that’s one of my big issues with box jumps Is they tend to get used in “HIIT” classes where the clientele is being smashed with high heart rate, very little rest and then…. Asked to jump repeatedly onto a box Asking people in a highly fatigued state to then jump and land over and over… often people who have just started their come back into fitness after not using their body much Are then asked to do high impact work in a highly fatigued state Here’s the thing… box jumps and plyometrics are incredible for athletes But most of the time, jumping or “power” based athletic movements are performed with long recovery and then very little “work” time… Jumping is like a sprint. We want to rest and recover then perform the high output exercise for a very short duration… then recover It is not really something you do after doing 8 other exercises previously with 10 seconds rest between exercises And if you want to jump which is fine… removing the target can be far easier for clients to do confidentially and land more comfortably 99% of everyday people want to go to the gym to feel healthier, get stronger and build muscle. You can do all of that at a far greater level without dynamic movements done in a heavily fatigued state As boring as it sounds… a simple split squat body weight in a fatigued state of a goblet squat would offer far more output and carry over to goals than box jumps for everyday people

Nailing Your Box Jumps Let’s compare two styles of box jumps and highlighting which one is more efficient. ❌ On the left side, the athlete jumps onto the box but finishes at the bottom of a full squat position before standing up. This method is less efficient and places extra strain on the legs with each rep. ✅ On the right side, the athlete jumps and lands with knees in an almost fully extended position, standing tall much quicker than the left side. This method is more efficient, reduces strain on the legs, and helps maintain power output throughout the workout. For box jumps, the goal is to get on top of the box and stand tall, ensuring your body forms a straight line from ankles to knees to hips to shoulders. 👨🏻‍🏫 Extra Tip for Coaches: If you want to work on scaling box jumps, encourage your athletes to use a smaller box or a set of 20 kilo plates stacked on top of each other. This allows for an explosive movement onto a lower height and progresses over time. Only opt for step-ups if the athlete has issues like joint problems or past injuries that prevent them from jumping.
