BTBrazing has to be one of my favourite parts of plumbing.
It’s technical. It takes patience. You can’t rush it. And when that filler flows perfectly and caps the joint clean… there’s nothing better.
I honestly reckon it’s becoming a bit of a lost art in our industry. Everything’s driven by speed and margins now — press this, crimp that, thread it and go. And don’t get me wrong, those systems have their place.
But a properly brazed copper joint?In my opinion, it’s still the most superior way to join copper. No rubber. No olives. No mechanical threads. Just clean prep, heat control, and skill. Done right, it’ll outlast us.
Yeah, I could’ve pressed this. It would’ve been quicker. But this job deserved time and care. I wanted to leave knowing that joint will be there for decades.
What do you boys reckon?
Are you getting many chances to braze on site?Does the boss let you take your time?Or are you mostly running press systems these days?

Heat the fitting, control the flame, let the alloy flow — that’s how you make a joint last 10+ years instead of 10 days.
A lot of leaks I fix come from rushed brazes… take your time and let the copper do the work.
