Diving in Haleʻiwa with @oneoceandiving this weekend, we were gifted an incredibly rare encounter: a young whale shark, gliding past us in total calm. It was pure magic. The kind of moment that quiets your mind and reminds you exactly why you do what you do.
Not long ago, new protections for sharks and rays were officially adopted at the CITES convention, strengthening international safeguards for species like whale sharks and other vulnerable ocean giants. That matters deeply to me, because moments like this don’t happen without protection, education, and people willing to fight for these animals before it’s too late.
Encounters like this are rare. Powerful. Humbling.
And they’re proof that connection leads to conservation!
Huge respect to @tyler_shootz and @_hayley_addison for leading with science and stewardship, sharing conservation facts on the way out and back, and showing how responsible ocean tourism can protect what we love. I’ll share more of that soon… but this moment was too beautiful not to sit with first.

Be warned, oceanic whitetips are not for beginners. They are built different. They don’t hover at the edge of visibility or casually cruise past. They are interested in you, and will approach head-on. Then they’ll circle back and do it again, studying you closely. It’s intense, but there’s an evolutionary reason behind it.
Oceanic whitetips evolved to survive the open ocean, where food is scarce and encounters with other life are rare. For millions of years, being bold and investigative meant staying alive. What they didn’t evolve for is us. Today, their curiosity draws them to fishing boats and tuna longlines, pushing this once abundant predator to the brink of extinction.

Ama gitmeli. Türdeşleri ile daha mutlu olacaktır.
@milliparklar Genel Müdürü Sayın Kadir Çokçetin'e ve rehabilitasyonu yürüten @polonezkoyzoo'ya çok teşekkür ederim. 8 ay süren rehabilitasyon çalışmaları sonucu çok mutlu bir goril gördüm.
Süreç niye uzadı eleştirilerine Çokçetin " Sadece gorillerden oluşan bir rehabilitasyon merkezine gitmesini istedik. Nijerya’dan tekrar hayvan ticaretine konu olmaması için garanti sözü aldık.Bu nedenle süreç biraz uzadı. Çünkü Zeytin'in sağlığı ve güvenliği bizim için önemli olduğundan bu süreci hassasiyetle yürüttük. Şu anda sürecin sonuna geldik, yakın zamanda Zeytin'i uğurlamayı planlıyoruz. " dedi.
Bu aşamadan sonra uluslararası kuruluşlardan takibi konusunda destek bekliyoruz. Süreci yakından takip eden @rootsandshootstr ve @janegoodallinst çok iş düşüyor. Zeytin'in en rahat edeceği en güvenli yeri bulmak lazım.
Türdeşlerinin kabul etmesi çok hassas bir konu.
Umarım herşey onun için iyi olur.
Hayvan ticaretine geçit vermeyen Gümrük Muhafaza Kaçakçılık ve İstihbarat Müdürlüğü'ne de çok teşekkürler. İşleri zor. Bavullar içinde hayvan kaçırmaya çalışanlar var. Geldikleri ülkede bir şekilde valize koyup gümrükten geçiriyorlar. O nedenle burada dikkatli olmamız gerekiyor.
Bu tür hayvanları almak,satmak,beslemek yasak.
Yolda bulsanız dahi teslim etmek zorundasınız. Piton yılanını yolda bulanlar oluyor :) Utanmasalar goril de bulurlar.
