SCIs it still a FAIL?!? ✅❌
At the start of the year, I attempted to build my own washing machine cabinet.
Honestly, the first attempt made from CLS timber was a huge fail.
It stayed half built and on show in the back of my kitchen build content.
I thought that my second design would be stronger and easier to make.
That was so far from true. With so many bespoke elements to this project. Mainly due to the pipes and electricity at the back feeding the washing machine, everything just felt more difficult.
Throughout spring summer and autumn, I’ve been slowly chipping away at this project hoping that one day it will be fully finished.
As you can see, it’s still not.
The main door needs replacing which honestly feels like the biggest job of all. My motivation to continue with this project is at zero.
This is proof you can’t win them all. I’m not upset about it. I can live with the outcome ✅

PAA simple cabinet box 📦 - where all of my built-in projects begin!
Building a basic cabinet box is the foundation of SO many projects and this is how I like to make them majority of the time (if the sides won’t show or a side panel will be put over)! No need to overthink or overbuild them. It’s made with just 6 pieces:
▪️With 3/4” plywood:
- 1 bottom piece
- 2 side pieces
- 2 top stretchers
▪️With 1/2” plywood:
- 1 back panel
After I get my pieces in some corner clamps, I shoot a couple brad nails just to keep the pieces from shifting. The real holding power is from the pocket screws and having a 1/2” back panel makes the whole box super strong and sturdy (no glue needed).
Pretty simple right? 😀 you can see me use 3 different types of corner clamps here and they’re my go-tos! Lmk in the comments if you want a direct link to the corner clamps I use!

TIInset cabinets are my favorite style to build—they just have such a clean, classic look.
That said, they can also be very time-consuming. Over the years, I’ve tried several different methods, and this approach has worked best for me.
Getting the drawer slides and drawer boxes installed perfectly is critical. Having slides with built-in adjustments is also a huge help, since there’s almost always a bit of fine-tuning needed at the end. @salice.america Progressa are my go to for slides especially inset.
