A coronary stent is a tiny mesh tube that doctors place inside a narrowed or blocked coronary artery to help keep it open. These arteries supply blood to the heart muscle, and when plaque builds up (a condition called coronary artery disease), it can reduce blood flow and increase the risk of chest pain or even a heart attack. During a procedure called angioplasty, a small balloon is inflated inside the artery to widen it, and the stent is placed to hold the artery open long-term. Many modern stents are drug-eluting, meaning they slowly release medication to help prevent the artery from narrowing again. Coronary stents have saved millions of lives and are one of the most common heart procedures performed in the United States today. They help restore healthy blood flow and allow patients to return to normal activities with proper medical follow-up and lifestyle changes. 👉 Follow @learn.with.tunes for more simple medical breakdowns made easy. #hearthealth #usahealth #americanmedicine #healthcareusa #cardiology

🫀 The 2026 cholesterol guidelines just dropped — biggest update in 8 years. Here’s what changed: 🔬 Kids should be screened at ages 9–11. As early as age 2 if family history of familial HL. 📊 New risk calculator (PREVENT™) replaces the old one — now starts at age 30. Your doctor should use the new “CPR” method: Calculate your risk → Personalize it with risk enhancers → Reclassify with a calcium score. ⚠️ Risk enhancers now include early menopause (< 45), preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, elevated Lp(a), hsCRP ≥ 2, South Asian ancestry, and more. 🏃‍♀️Early emphasis on diet, exercise, lifestyle *NON-NEGOTIABLE* 🎯 Specific LDL targets are BACK: → Very high risk: LDL goal < 55 → High risk: LDL goal < 70 🧬 Lp(a) testing now recommended for EVERY adult — at least once. 1 in 5 people are walking around with high levels and have no idea. 🫀 Calcium scores now directly drive your treatment: → Score of 0 → may safely skip meds → Score ≥ 1000 → treated like a heart attack patient ❌ Fish oil, turmeric, garlic, red yeast rice — officially NOT recommended for cholesterol. 💊 Statins first line, ezetimibe/PCSK9i next, New drugs in the algorithm: olezarsen, inclisiran, bempedoic acid. 📈 The bottom line: cholesterol damage is cumulative. The earlier you act, the more years of protection you gain. 💾 Save this. Share with someone who needs it. #Cardiology #HeartHealth #Cholesterol #PreventiveCardiology

Your heart is more than just a symbol of love — it’s a powerful, tireless pump working every second of your life ❤️ Every beat begins with an electrical signal from the sinoatrial (SA) node, the heart’s natural pacemaker. This signal spreads across the atria, causing them to contract and push blood into the ventricles. This phase is called atrial systole. Next comes the real powerhouse moment 💥 The ventricles contract — ventricular systole — sending blood out in two directions: 🫀 The right ventricle pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs via the pulmonary artery for oxygenation 🫀 The left ventricle pumps oxygen-rich blood into the aorta, delivering it to every organ in your body Then the heart relaxes — diastole — allowing the chambers to refill with blood, preparing for the next beat. And this entire cycle repeats about 60–100 times every minute, nonstop. Valves inside your heart (tricuspid, mitral, pulmonary, and aortic) act like one-way gates 🚪 ensuring blood flows in the right direction without backflow. From delivering oxygen to your brain 🧠 to fueling every muscle 💪, your heart keeps your body alive with precision and rhythm. In a single day, your heart beats around 100,000 times and pumps nearly 7,500 liters of blood — without you even noticing. Take a moment to appreciate this incredible organ. Keep it healthy with good food, exercise, and stress control ❤️ #HeartHealth #HumanBody #MedicalEducation #Cardiology
