BE5 things I do differently since becoming Catholic:
- I worship God differently. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the highest form of worship to God. Through the Mass, we receive the Holy Eucharist.
- I have a more consistent prayer life. I used to pray when I felt like it, and it was much more sporadic and random. Morning prayers, evening prayers, prayers before meals, and praying the Rosary, all help me have a much more consistent and structured prayer life. I also pray regardless of my feelings. It’s always a good thing to do even when I don’t “feel like it”.
- I dress more modestly. Dressing more modestly and femininely is a way I can honor my body, which is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and show respect to God and others.
- I am more aware of my sins throughout the day. I used to never think about the gravity of my sins, or how often I committed certain sins. Now that I have an examination of conscience, and I go to Confession, I am much more aware of when and how I sin. It’s very humbling!
- My view of suffering has changed. When suffering used to afflict me, I would ask “why me?”. As a Catholic, I understand that we all have crosses to bear. We are called to carry our crosses! We can offer up our suffering and use it to draw nearer to God, and get to Heaven! I also think of Our Lord on the cross, my suffering is nothing compared to His 🙏🏻

God’s grace is big enough to redeem all of that and your sins too.

He did not, in fact, aggressively attempt ash removal in the parking lot, But as a cradle Catholic who dove deeper into her faith last Lent… this is spiritually accurate.
Every single year I walk out of church wondering:
How long do we leave these on for?
Is it a sin to wipe them off?
Does it count less if they smudge?
What if I shower?
Catholic brain spirals are real.. do they have phone-a-priest? 😂😂
yet… when we receive ashes, we’re told:
Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.
Not “Wear these for 6 to 8 business hours.” So the brain spiral is fair game!
The ashes are a sign of our fragility, mortality, need for repentance & call to interior conversion.
They’re not about timing or “how long” but forme, about transformation.
Last Lent was the first time in my life I truly surrendered instead of just performing discipline of giving something up. @hallowapp completely changed that for me in terms of daily structure…It structured my prayer & anchored my mornings. It made Lent intentional.
This Lent feels even more personal… because my husband is getting baptized.

LII always dress up for Mass and Confession and Adoration. I wear dresses and skirts that cover my shoulders and go past my knees. This is typically more dressed up and much more modest than other clothes I wear throughout the week.
However, I don’t judge people who choose to dress casually. Only 18% of Catholics in the United States attend Mass every week, so I am grateful for everyone who attends.
You never know someone’s story. They might be converting into Catholicism, not a Catholic but attending with family, coming from an event right before, not able to afford more clothing, or feel so safe and comfortable with God’s love that it feels good to dress casual.
Regardless of the situation, I choose not to get upset by someone’s outfit. I’m at Mass to worship God and that is what I’m focused on.
I didn’t always dress up for Mass. I used to dress more casually at Mass and less modest, but in 2020 that changed for me.
I discovered that always dressing up for Mass by wearing a beautiful dress, cute shoes, makeup and hair changed my Mass experience for the better. Dressing up is a much bigger deal to me than how much skin is covered.
We are material beings and what we do with our bodies matters.
When we put effort into our appearance it sends the message that what happens at Mass is an extremely important occasion. Something so wonderful is going on.
We dress fancy for weddings. We dress up for dances. We dress up to go to court and for important work meetings. We dress up for birthday dinners and brunch plans.
So why wouldn’t we also dress up for Mass to worship our King?
Mass is the MOST important part of our life. Dressing like we believe in the miracle of the consecration of the Real Presence of the Eucharist deepens our faith and makes us believe in Catholicism even stronger.
So no, I don’t recommend making comments to people at Mass for dressing casually or immodestly. If you currently do dress up you can be an example to other people. Pray for them too.
Don’t get upset though. Don’t let other people distract you from worshipping God at Mass.

ITMary led me to her Son’s church, and to my Heavenly Mother, I will always be grateful.
And to the Lord, I will always be thankful that He gave me His Mother.
It always struck me as odd that for a God of balance and perfect opposites and for a God who mirrors just about everything in the Heavenly and Earthly realms, there was no Heavenly Mother.
There’s day and night. There’s hot and cold. There’s male and female. There’s husbands and wives.
We have the Church as a Bride.
Jesus as the Groom.
God is a Heavenly Father.
Where is our Mother?
Before being given the fullness of the Faith through God’s holy Catholic Church, there was gaping hole in the beautiful balance of the earth and cosmos — the maternal was missing. I remember when someone was suffering over the loss of their earthly father or they didn’t have a good and present dad, we’d use the reality of God the Father to point someone to. “Lean on God the Father as your Heavenly Father who will never fail you or let you down. He can be your Dad.”
But I noticed we never had this same heavenly comfort for the loss of a mother. For those who lose their mama or for those whose earthly mama was cruel. Where was that perfectly, feminine, maternal comfort for them?
In shunning Jesus’ gift of Mary as Mother, we stole the maternal heavenly comfort He provided for us and upset the balance in our needy, childlike hearts.
When Jesus hung on the cross and said to John, “Behold, your mother,” He wasn’t speaking solely to John alone. John was our representative. Jesus gave His mother to us all. She is Mother to the Church. If Christ is our Brother and Groom, we share His mother. She is one of His gifts to us.
Sweet Mary, Mother of Mercy, be a Mother to me now.
