Mercury is also very hard to clean. When spilled, it breaks into tiny droplets. These can roll under seats and inside panels. Over time, mercury releases toxic vapor. In a closed cabin, this becomes dangerous for passengers and crew. Cleanup often requires grounding the aircraft for long periods. Because of these risks, airlines and safety agencies restrict mercury transport. This rule protects both people and aircraft. Small materials can create large safety problems in aviation. I didn’t go from chemical engineering to waitressing because I failed. I chose to waitress a few nights a week so I could stay home during the day for the work I felt called to do. Some nights that looks like eating dinner alone. Some days it looks like “homeschooling” stickers, snack breaks, and messy tables. And for a while, I wrestled with the voice that said, “Shouldn’t you be doing something more impressive?” But here’s what I’ve learned: Obedience doesn’t always look like climbing. Sometimes it looks like protecting what matters. Waitressing didn’t pull me away from motherhood. It made it possible. It gave us margin. It let me be present. It helped me let go of proving myself and start trusting God more deeply. This season isn’t a downgrade. It’s deliberate. A quieter kind of success.
