In honor of Black History Month, we’re spotlighting Black-owned legacy businesses in Boston! Our final feature of the month is @chezvousskating in Dorchester, owned by Derick Foster-Toney and Edward Toney, Jr. Chez-Vous Roller Skating Rink has been a Dorchester staple for 92 years, first opening its doors in 1933. In the 1990s, Edward Toney, Sr. purchased the rink, maintaining its status as a Black-owned family business. The Toney family has operated Chez-Vous ever since, preserving its legacy as Boston’s only roller skating rink today and a cornerstone of the Dorchester community. In 2023, the @CityOfBoston honored Chez-Vous Roller Skating Rink with a Legacy Business Award for their contributions to the city. “When the opportunity to be awarded the Legacy Business Award came about, it was definitely a sign of good change in the city. It was a sign that moving forward, businesses like ours can be honored and have the resources allocated to us that we deserve and that we need to thrive and to be able to provide those services at a level to our communities that they deserve as well,” said Derick. Been dying to get a hair style refresh and I finally got myself a Korean Filler Perm at 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘇 𝗩𝗼𝘂𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲. But wait, it was not just any usual hair perm, it was a complete self care session which was so relaxing and I totally loved the results!  At 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘇 𝗩𝗼𝘂𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲, you are checking into a personal sanctuary for the afternoon. Choose from 10 interestingly themed private pods and your entire hair service session will be done from the privacy of your own space. During my session, I got to indulge in a private tea session with a tiered high tea set and sip on unlimited beverages that I could choose from a menu that includes a wide range of Thai milk teas, yuzu coolers & blooming flower teas. There’s even noodles or porridge to choose from and also an 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗽𝗮 to enjoy as it is included with every service bundle, this was really  pampering!  I came for a perm but stayed for the experience @chezvoushair definitely!
