For the injuries in Gaza, survival doesn’t end when the bombing stops. There is minimal follow-up care, no treatment, no path to healing. Ahmed is one of them. A young man responsible for his family, forced by famine to seek food aid only to be severely injured while his uncle was killed before his eyes. The trauma he carries is both physical and psychological, and it hasn’t stopped. Ahmed cannot walk yet he is responsible for an entire family with no income, no medical support, and no way to afford the care he urgently needs. His story reflects a wider crisis where the wounded are left without help long after the headlines about food distribution sites, the killings, fade. Chronic, life-long conditions are amongst the most difficult to treat in Gaza due to the collapsed healthcare system. They are also the least likely to be medically evacuated since usually on going, expensive, care is often needed. So patients are left to suffer in Gaza, usually deteriorating. Dina used to live in our Refaat Alareer Camp for medical patients. However, since returning to the North, Dina has been in and out of hospitals, battling infections and pain. The 20 year old has severe and chronic kidney issues including passing painful stones and frequent infections. To provide Dina with assistance, The Sameer Project visited her on January 5, and gave a prayer outfit and a scarf, a large food parcel, and a warm tracksuit. The total cost of our assistance this day, including transportation and commission at 11% was $191. Donate to the Medical Campaign to support critical individual cases.

Genocide doesn’t only kill through bombs, famine, displacement, and medical siege. It creates conditions where suffering continues, slowly, drawn out, and in devastating ways. Little Maryam suffered 2nd degree burns when a pot of boiling water spilled on her inside the small tent her family is living in, in Al-Rimal neighborhood, North Gaza. When homes are destroyed and families are forced into cramped shelters and makeshift tents, cooking and heating using small fires or gas stoves, is dangerous. This is the secondary suffering created by the occupation. The Sameer Project medical team will assist Maryam with the care she needs. On October 7, her world was shattered by the martyrdom of her 18-year-old son, Ahmed. Before she could even process the grief of losing her eldest child, her home was bombed twice and leveled to the ground, forcing her and her six children into a desperate cycle of displacement. ​The family now lives in a torn, fragile tent that offers no protection from the elements, frequently sinking and flooding. Wafa is not only fighting to find food for her crying children but is also the sole support for her husband, whose chronic epilepsy and seizures have worsened due to the trauma of their son's death. Without blankets, warm clothes, or consistent meals, the family is enduring a psychological and physical battle for survival. Rawaa is only 15 years old, but three times a week she makes her way for kidney dialysis at Al-Helou Hospital in North Gaza. While most teenagers around the world worry about school or friends, Rawaa’s days revolve around treatments, medications, and the uncertainty of her own health in a medical system struggling to operate. Doctors say she needs a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep her strength up during dialysis. But for her family, even basic food has become unaffordable. In March 2, The Sameer Project provided Rawaa with the medications and vitamins she urgently needs, and a food parcel with fresh fruits and vegetables so she can eat before and after treatment. For a moment, the burden on her family was eased. The total cost was $593 after 11% commission. No child should have to struggle this hard just to receive lifesaving care. This mother in Gaza is living the same nightmare twice. Iman’s 2 year old son died on February 22 after his liver and spleen disease worsened while he was waiting for a medical evacuation that never came. Now his baby sister Rital is suffering from the same condition, her mother praying for a different outcome while Gaza is under siege and her treatment also only avaiable outside of Gaza. This mother has already buried one child and now watches the other fight the same illness. As The Sameer Project we cannot get Rital out of Gaza. We cannot provide the cure she needs. But what we can do is stand beside this grieving mother and her fragile baby offering any support and care they need. On February 26, The Sameer Project delivered a bag of essential supplies including baby clothes, milk, and diapers for $72 after commission. Sometimes the only thing we can offer is care, dignity, and the reminder that they are not alone - and of course our prayers for Rital’s chance at recovery, and for Nidal to rest in peace. So many people care for Bahaa, so when he started struggling with an upper respiratory infection and continued malnutrition people were reaching out to us from all over the world to help. But we know Bahaa and used to provide for him nutritionally in the North, and now in the South we will check in on him periodically to see how we can help. The 21 year old has cerebral palsy and needs specific types of formula, foods, and supplements to help him gain weight. His mother has been struggling to provide all his needs. On December 30, The Sameer Project visited with Bahaa and his family and supplied them with a special food parcel for malnutrition for $66, two tubes of fungus cream from our medical point that we had in stock, and two double packs of adult diapers for $35. His mother wanted to show the world Bahaa’s condition so that you realize people are still suffering from severe malnutrition in Gaza. Since our visit, Bahaa was admitted into the hospital, and we have contacted his mother to bring him a blanket. Our doctors will of course be following up with him and checking on him after his hospital stay. Our individual case medical care is all thanks you your contributions to our Medical Campaign link. Lamar is only 12 years old, but she was shot in the back by the occupation in 2024, severing her spinal cord, left paralyzed and fighting through unimaginable pain. For months and months she has required constant medical care from our medical point, battling deep bed sores that require cleaning and dressing so they do not get infected. Despite the pain, her life being ripped away from her, she is still fighting. And The Sameer Project will continue to fight with her until we see Lamar walk again. Inshallah. Living at our Refaat Alareer Camp, she undergoes physical therapy and little by little she is regaining some movement. We have a nurse-caretaker on site that rotates her to avoid pressure sores. But even more importantly, her spirit is beginning to heal too. Recently, her father bought her a few tiny chicks so she would have something of her own to care for. Now every day she watches over her chickens, feeding them, and smiles. Recovery will be long, and we pray that with intensive care and support Lamar will heal. A daughter with seizures and the other with potential fibromyalgia, this mother is struggling to care for her kids in a torn tent. In spite of all that her face glows when thinking about going back to her neighborhood in Beit Hanoun. Beit Hanoun is in the yellow area occupied by the military occupation so it is not possible for this family to return. While we await the withdrawal of the military occupation, The Sameer Project would like to provide this family with a new tent and some aid, which she can hopefully take with her to Beit Lahia.
