MIThree years ago, I stood on that very beach, waves crashing over my head, convinced life wasn’t worth living and looking for a way forward & contemplating every way out.
Alcohol and drugs had stripped me of everything—my joy, my self-respect, even my ability to smile.
I knew I had to be the one to change things, I knew I had to cut a lot of ties. I was lucky to have someone offer me help in that moment, guidance and love at the right time.
I also got myself into a room filled with people who knew my pain and showed me a different way. I learned I wasn’t alone. None of us ever are. I saw people living lives beyond their wildest dreams who had started worse than I had ever been.
Recovery isn’t easy—it’s a battle between the old you and the new you. But every day I choose sobriety, I build a future worth living for.
Today, I sit here drenched in sweat with the ability to sit still and be present, I’m alive, I’m grateful, I’m growing and I’m smiling.
