DRPathological lying for Cluster B personalities is conscious and deliberate, but their lying is so natural and so frequent that it can become automatic and habitual. While some people tell white lies or omit details to protect themselves or others, the lies told by Cluster Bs are not told out of fear or to protect anyone. Cluster Bs misrepresent the truth and create false and misleading impressions to maintain some form of control or advantage over you.
When a Cluster B personality is caught in a lie, they will rearrange their story and rework their language to maintain their lie, rather than just admitting the truth, even in light of hard evidence, and even when the truth is easier to tell and is inconsequential.
Cluster Bs are also known to lie simply because they can. This is exceedingly difficult for a normal person who wants to have normal interactions to wrap their mind around.
Borderlines feel vindicated when they lie even when they are the ones who caused the harm in the first place. Narcissists lie because they feel entitled to. Antisocials lie because they have no honor and derive delight from lying. And histrionics lie because they believe the truth is not interesting enough to be worth telling.
Regardless of which Cluster B personality you are dealing with, expect that they are lying to you most of the time. For the Cluster B, lying is as natural as breathing, so no matter how committed to you they say they are, they’re not going to stop lying to you or for you. And for every lie you have exposed, just know that there are countless more that you will never know about.
