FIWriting this demo track took me right back to where I started 19 years ago.
In my early years (~ from 2010), I began to set myself a challenge whenever i saved up enough money to buy a new VST: Pick one library, one set of tools, and don't touch anything else until the track is finished. I still believe this is the best exercise any composer can do. By limiting your palette, you’re forced to actually understand the architecture of your sounds, which eventually leads to much more tailored, intentional soundtracks.
And what I learned this time is that I would've loved to have sth like Absolute 7 collection, and the synergy with Groove Agent 6 during my early years. Let's say that the libraries i used in 2008 sounded a little bit "different". A few standouts for me:
Groove Agent 6 Sound Design: The new sound design capabilities are a playground. I wasn't just picking drum samples; I was sculpting transients and textures that blurred the line between percussion and synth.
The Absolute 7 Scope: You’re getting 35 Instruments, over 194 GB of content and 8000 presets. It's an awesome collection of sounds.
The Sonic Range: From the high-end cinematic orchestral Tools in The Orchestra: Colorsto the grit of FM Lab & Retrologue 2, it’s a massive spectrum that fits the super diverse demands of tailored soundtrack productions perfectly.
I spent ~20 hours with Groove Agent 6 & Absolute 7 to get an overview and then I spent 4.5 hours composing this track - you can see the full production from scratch in the timelapse above!

RUI’ve worked in Logic for over 8 years.
Yeah… a long fkn time.
But lately, I kept hearing my friends talk about how good Cubase is.
At first, I thought it was just a taste thing.
But now that I’ve installed it—
I can clearly see it’s Logic’s big brother.
Cubase feels built for film/game scoring specifically.
Logic tries to cover everything, which can be a pro…
but I prefer tools that are streamlined for one purpose.
I’m still a total newbie with Cubase,
but I can already tell it’ll feel more like home once I get the hang of it.
Also, weird fact:
Apparently Cubase works better with Apple products than Logic does??
C’mon Apple, make it make sense lol.
Anyway—
Cubase feels like the right move for now.
It’ll also help me collab more easily with my friends and peers.

If anyone is confused, I just played a bit of Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (left hand) and played it into a sequencer.
I changed the sound to a drum kit and then refined it by deleting some notes.
Then I added random stuff to make it into a track.
What do you think of this rather unusual method? Or maybe a lot of people do stuff like this all the time?? 🤔 anyway I have a full video on my YT channel.
