SUZach just got his permit recently…
But he was driving and could tell he was just feeling really low.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AND THIS HAPPENS?
The ACTUAL blood sugar numbers weren’t low, but he had a large amount of IOB (insulin on board) he had given for lunch, so that’s why the arrows are pointing down near the numbers- and he FELT low.
Sometimes, as his mom, I have to remember to not tell him “you’re fine- your blood sugar looks good.” … He knows his body and how he’s feeling- and I’m glad he trusted that to pull over and get to where he felt better.
…even if it was for almost half hour :)
But truly- better to be safe- and proud of him for doing what he felt was right.

SUBeing a Type 1 Diabetic… and juggling lows with friends.
Zach definitely tries to be strong in front of his friends, but there are times when he legit is LITERALLY floored by it. Zach truly couldn’t even move in this video.
For us non-Type 1s… Imagine when you have felt the most crazy light-headed, weak, tired, dizzy, nauseous, foggy, and all your limbs feel like they are “asleep”… but all those at once.
Zach had a great night with friends hanging at a local arcade place, but we think he “over gave” insulin for an Icee he had there and once he got home- it legit hit him all at once when they were ready to go upstairs to go play video games.
Zach is super lucky to have a best friend that has been with him before Type 1 (at 10 years old), and now as a 15 year old. His friend totally can tell when Zach isn’t feeling right and is there to support him however he can, which makes me- as Zach’s mom- feel so great he has that support.
But whether it is his best friend or even a stranger- there are those times when Zach is LEGIT down for the count and can’t move and it is so super scary for all of us around him to see what we can do to help.
Even though Zach was pretty much out of it, he did consent to being taped because he wants to show the REAL sides of being Type 1. He loves showing funny videos but this is- unfortunately- what Type One does.
And he is here to spread awareness. And I am so proud of him for doing it.

SUWasn’t a choice to fight 😅
Don’t get me wrong, it’s so sweet when people say “you’re resilient” “you’re so strong” but it’s also funny when you think about how much “resilience” really just meant… surviving. Like, there wasn’t exactly another option 🤣
But to everyone living with T1D: even if it wasn’t a choice to fight, it is a daily choice to keep showing up and that deserves recognition.
You are strong. You are resilient. And you deserve some serious credit for doing what it takes to stay healthy and keep living your life 💙

KAToday is World Diabetes Day, and today I get to show a little extra love to my girl. Diabetes is so much that you see shared on social media, but there’s even more you don’t. So many times I’ve heard, “I don’t know how you do it.” But it’s amazing what you’re capable of when you really don’t have any other choice, and you get exactly zero breaks. T1D is not something I’d wish on anyone, but I am *astounded* at the person Sof’s becoming through it. 💙

We haven’t shared one in a while, but she’s getting more and more confident with changing them on her own. LEGEND!
As she’s transitioning to secondary school in a few months and also going on a residential trip abroad with her school in June, I’m finding her Dexcom G6 more reassuring than ever before! Although she does still have trusted grown ups around to help, she is starting to need to be (and wants to be) more and more independent so I am so thankful I can keep an eye on her levels from a distance using the Dexcom follow app🥰
