My life might be sweet… but I’m not your inspiration. It is often said as a compliment, but if you see a disabled person doing normal daily activities, it shouldn’t be inspiring. Our lives are not a pity. They are beautiful lives, however living with a disability on its own doesn’t make me exceptional. Now if I were to do something truly out of the ordinary, THAT could be considered inspiring. Personally, I prefer aspirational to inspirational. If something is inspirational you can think it was nice, but nothing has to come from it. If it is aspirational, it actually motivates you to do something! A good place to start if you catch yourself finding something inspirational is to take disability out of the situation. If you were the one doing it, would it still be inspiring? Or would it just be “normal”? How I do things might be different than how you would do them, but that doesn’t make them worse, and it certainly shouldn’t make you feel better about your life. When it comes down to objectifying disabled people to make you “feel better because your life could be worse” or “inspired”, take a moment to put yourself in the disabled person’s world. How would it make you feel if someone said they felt better about themselves because at least they weren’t you, because they didn’t have your body, because they didn’t have your life? I’m going to guess it wouldn’t make you feel so great. I’m going to guess it would make you feel less than others. I’m going to guess it would substantially lessen your self love. If you find yourself admiring someone for being inspiring, it’s not your fault. It’s what society and our world has shown you. The truth for many of us (I will never try to speak for the entire disabled community) is that we are not here to inspire. We are not here to make you feel better about your life. Seeing me learn to walk shouldn’t make you feel “lucky”. Your life isn’t “better” than mine because you don’t have my disability. We are real people. We are nurses, teachers, receptionists, and everything else under the sun… just not your inspiration.

This is just another day for @southwestair while this is emotionally, physically, and financially devastating for us disabled passengers. Our mobility aids are intertwined with our livelihood. This has still not been resolved, and my chair has still not been repaired. 💔 Video description: A video compilation showing the damage done to my 4front2 power chair by @southwestair on our trip to AND from Dallas. It was damaged twice. On the way there and back, they broke/removed my joystick. I’m wearing a ribbed, chocolate, below the knee dress with a denim jacket over it, and a white bucket hat with light green flowers on it. I’m wearing a gray and navy neck pillow around my neck and I’m wearing a black face mask and glasses. In the first clip I’m holding my raspberry colored joy stick in my lap. In the second clip, the Southwest staff is inspecting my broken chair, with my joystick laying in the middle of the seat. In the final clip, I’m outside the airport, with my joystick in my lap. The white text on the screen says, “I have always said Southwest Airlines is my favorite airline to fly as a disabled person.” Red text comes up on the bottom of the screen and says, “Not anymore.” in bolder font. The final text on screen says in white text, “This is the reality for disabled people flying with mobility aids.” An instrumental version of “What Was I Made For” by Billie Eilish plays in the background. #disabledtravel #disabledlife #wheelchairtravel #wheelchairlife #disabilityawareness #disabilityrights #disabilityjustice

It’s valid to say that low-support needs Autistics often face judgment instead of empathy. But why try to make that point by pitting us against high supports needs Autistic people? The reality is that high-support needs Autistics, especially racialized individuals, rarely get the immediate support and accommodations depicted. This creates a false and harmful comparison that ignores systemic privilege. True advocacy doesn’t use language tied to eugenics (“mild” vs. “severe” autism). It doesn’t double down when harm is pointed out. Being Autistic means we’re human and can make mistakes, but it doesn’t absolve us from taking accountability: apologizing, removing harmful content, correcting misinformation, and working to undo the damage. This is a call for all of us to do better. What does true, united advocacy look like to you? I won my long-term disability appeal. I fought for nine months to prove I was disabled. It wasn’t until they learned I had been admitted to a residential rehab that they finally acknowledged it. “While it is evident this claimant has been diagnosed/treated for several chronic medical conditions, such as complaints of fatigue, dyspnea, EDS, and/or POTS, the physically debilitating effects of these diagnoses have not been clinically established.” Anger is the feeling I struggle to experience the most, but when I read these words I am seething with it. The relief was short-lived. Now, I being asked to prove I can’t work ANY job-not just the one I had. I went out Friday night for dinner. I spent three hours at a protest Saturday morning. It took 60 hours of bed rest just to get up and make myself a meal. I can’t drive. I can’t read more than 5-10 minutes before the words blur. I lose my train of thought mid-sentence. By the end of the night, l’m so tired from *sitting* on the couch, l often can’t tuck my daughter in at night. Bluntly, I’m scared to even post online. I worry they’ll say that using social media means I can work a remote job. I know they will be watching (stalking), waiting to catch me simply trying to live in the few good hours I get. Like that alone disqualifies me. If this sounds paranoid, it’s not. The power dynamic is disgusting. They’ve made it so I can’t enjoy life without looking over my shoulder, because if I do - they might use it to take away my financial stability. My children’s stability. They’ve always had the proof. Now they have even more. And they’ve shown me they’ll do whatever it takes to deny me. It’s already hard enough to be disabled. I shouldn’t have to keep proving it. I just hope they’ve figured out by now: I will find my power. And I will keep winning. #ChronicIllness #DisabilityJustice #LongTermDisability #Invisiblelllness #potsie #spoonieproblems #IAmTheProof #DisabledAndProud #SpoonieLife #FightingForMyLife #DisabilityAwareness #ResilientAF

One day, I won’t be here And that thought terrifies me Who will protect my children when I’m gone Who will fight for them Who will understand them the way I do Today I read about a young man named Josh. He’s 21. Autistic. His family asked for help. Instead, he was locked in a secure hospital. They were told it would be three months. He has been there four years. He spent his 21st birthday alone in a room with nothing but a toilet His mum said, “We wish we’d never asked for help” That sentence hit me like a brick This is the system my children are growing up in Right now, over 2,000 autistic and learning disabled people are detained in mental health hospitals across the UK Many of them were sectioned not because they were mentally ill but because they were failed Failed by education Failed by social care Failed by a system that does not know how to support them Some have been locked away for years If we do not fight for change now, that could be my child’s future I will keep fighting while I am here But I should not have to This should never be his future This is not care. It is cruelty #HomesNotHospitals #ParentCarer #SENDSystemFailure #NeurodivergentFamily #AutisticRights #WhatHappensWhenImGone #DisabilityJustice #FightForOrdinary #ThisIsParenting

if you are a disability influencer, advocate, business owner, ally, ANYTHING, it’s time for you to show up if you haven’t. IT’S NOT JUST RAMPS OR REPRESENTATION, OR INDIVIDUAL ACCOLADES, it’s speaking on the collective struggle! disability justice requires all of us and a whole understanding of privilege, and how proximity to whiteness affects your worldview and advocacy choices. being so serious, PLEASE read right to maim by jasbir puar. it connects so many dots on state violence and disability, and disability as a way of control. #leftist #disabilityjustice #immigration #disability

Disability Pride Month and 35th ADA Anniversary wouldn’t exist without Black and Brown disabled people contributions and activism. We, as the disability community, cannot fight for inclusion in society if we’re not being inclusive within our community. Black and Brown disabled people deserve to be heard, seen, represent, and respected. Not overlooked and only being acknowledged when we are needed. . . . 🚨 new NDIS changes are already pushing kids with developmental delay + autism off the scheme - with NO real supports in place to catch them. foundational supports? they don’t exist yet. state systems? not ready. right now, children are falling through the cracks. on top of that, the minister used outdated terms like mild to moderate autism (we don’t use functioning labels anymore) and even suggested autism isn’t lifelong. this is beyond frustrating and dangerous for our community. the NDIS was meant to provide safety, stability, choice and control. instead, these changes risk leaving families stranded without the disability supports they need. 👉🏻 disabled people deserve better than lies and deception by the people representing the systems that are responsible for our livelihood. #NDISChanges #DisabilityJustice #AutismAcceptance #DevelopmentalDelay #FoundationalSupports video description: a femme presenting person in a baby blue oversized sweatshirt speaks to camera, green screened over different screenshots of headlines and news articles referring to the recent NDIS changes. there are captions for accessibility.

Swipe through this graphic and really look at it. Reality: some people start ahead, some start on the line, some start behind it. Equality: everyone gets the same support, whether they need it or not. Equity: support is distributed based on need. Justice: the barrier is removed so no one needs to fight for support in the first place. As a disabled person, I am exhausted by conversations that get stuck at “but everyone gets the same.” The world is not built the same for all of us. If the structure disables people, the solution isn’t identical treatment. It’s redesign. We don’t need charity. We need structural change. Equity helps. Justice transforms. #DisabilityJustice #EquityNotEquality #AccessibilityMatters #DisabledAndProud #SystemicAbleism
