Have you seen any non disabled celebrities support it? Have you seen and non disabled companies support #DisabilityPrideMonth? I have only seen @mcdonaldsuk support disability pride. It’s a very small step in the right direction, but where is @tescofood where is @marksandspencerfoodpr where is @primark where is @newlook. All companies who use disabled influencers to diversify their feed, but no backing on disability pride month? There are so many more companies and celebs who could get involved. Why not tag and share some pride content with them. It’s exhausting. Please remeber, if you’re going to be inclusive, you need to be inclusive. #DisabilityPride #disabledAndProud #wheelchair A reel of Gem in her wheelchair rolling through opening the doors in the morning and breathing in explaining what is going on

"I need you to see it. I need you to see it, and I need you to understand that my disability is not a deficit. That I'm not broken, that I am not in need of fixing... I am simply who I am." – Dr. LaMondre Pough Too often, disability is viewed through the lens of limitation, something to be corrected, pitied, or hidden. But that narrative is outdated and harmful. Disability pride means rejecting the idea that we need to be fixed and celebrating who we are, exactly as we are. Dr. LaMondre Pough’s words are a powerful reminder of what true inclusion and disability pride really mean. [Video Description: Dr LaMondre is sitting in his wheelchair with a black background behind him. He is wearing a purple jumper and grey trousers. He has a black beard and is talking directly to camera.]

If you’re disabled, please know that you’re worthy ❤️ You matter. You’re just as valuable as anyone else. In my 20s, I believed that I was less “dateable” due to my deafblindness. I thought I had a deadline to find my life partner- my deadline was before my eyesight got worse and I needed to possibly use a white cane. The dating decisions I made during this time period were not good. But in my 30s, guess what? I started using that white cane. I found a partner who accepted me exactly as I was. I started a successful business. I became a full-time traveler. My life got radically better, even though my vision was worse than it was in my 20s. Finding Disability Pride and loving my whole self including my disability has forever changed me. If you’re disabled, just know that life is a journey. If you’re struggling now, keep going. You deserve to be treated well. You’re worthy, always. Does this resonate? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️ Video Description pinned in comments. Transcript: When I was first diagnosed with a progressive vision disability, I thought I had a deadline for experiencing life. I thought I needed to figure it all out before my vision disability progressed too far. I was wrong. My life is absolutely amazing. #DisabilityAwareness #BlindishLatina #UsherSyndrome #Blindness #deafblindness #deafblind #Disability #DisabledLatina #DisabilityAdvocate #UsherSyndrome #DisabilityPride #InternalizedAbleism

July is #DisabilityPrideMonth - but if your support starts and ends with a hashtag or a rainbow wheelchair logo, it’s not pride. It’s performance. Large businesses, I’m looking at you 👀, not that I’ve actually seen much comms at all so far tbh 😣 Disability Pride isn’t about pretending everything’s fine. It’s about owning the reality of being disabled in a world that’s not built for us; the barriers, the bias, the burnout. It’s about showing up unapologetically because of who we are, not in spite of it. So if you’re a business, a brand, or a so-called ally: Don’t post a token graphic and call it awareness. Don’t feature us for a week, then disappear. Don’t center your message around “inspiration.” 👉🏻 Read up on the proposed welfare reform that’s ongoing this week, and write to your local MP. 👉🏻 Hire us within your workforce 👉🏻 Consult and make your spaces accessible 👉🏻 Listen to us even when it’s uncomfortable 👉🏻 Take action today, as it might just be you who needs the allyship tomorrow… Learn more from people doing great things within the space: @takingthepip @disrights_uk @scopecharity to name a few. Get tagging other resources in the comments 🙌🏻 Disability inclusion is a 365-day commitment, not a July PR moment. And to my disabled community: this month is for US. For our voices, our joy, our resistance, and our power. I see you. I’m proud of us and most of all, I’m proud to be Disabled 💪♿️❤️ What else would you add to this? In a society where my disability isn’t always accepted, I choose to accept myself. Happy Disability Pride Month!! I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled to see if any brands have any campaigns this month to celebrate disability pride month but usually it’s pretty rare, unfortunately. If you see anything feel free to tag me! Thankfully with social media, we can still bring attention to disability pride ourselves! Excited for lots of conversation on the topic! My own journey of being prideful about disability, how to be an ally, things brands do to be inclusive, etc.? “And I don’t want the world to see me, I don’t think that they’d understand.” Ooft. That’s exactly how I felt when Iris was released, and for the duration of my life prior to its release. Making this video, I sorely wish there were more photos of me in the 90s. I was gangly and cute. But back then, I didn’t want to be seen as I do now, and I knew that *they* wouldn’t understand. Even when I started using the internet, I was nervous to share my photos - plus it was so hard to do so in the 90s. Take a photo, get the film developed, scan the photo, upload on dial up… I only shared my photo with one person online in the 90s. Years later, in the late 2000s, I became comfortable in my skin. Then in the 2010s I found disability pride. I became more willing to be in, and share my photos. And now it’s second nature. Selfies are political; outfit photos are an act of defiance. Because representation is important - for de-medicalising skin conditions and disability, and for showing what’s possible. Joy, friendships and love, style, happiness, achievements, hope. I’ll continue being visible - for others with ichthyosis, and for Little Carly in the 90s. “I just want you to know who I am.” 💜 Video : a series of photos of Carly - who has red skin and short dark curly hair. The first is her in 2026, with text Carly, what were you like in the 90s?” Then the photos are from 1991-99 - primary school, holding puppies while wearing scrunchies and a Girlfriend hat, at the snow, school graduation, school formal, first day of high school, with a horse, triple denim, excited about Savage Garden, year 11, Border Mail work experience in the park looking like Anne of Green Gables, year 12. Music is Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, lyrics are: “And I’d give up forever to touch you ‘Cause I know that you feel me somehow You’re the closest to Heaven that I’ll ever be And I don’t wanna go home right now And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it’s over I just don’t wanna miss you tonight And I don’t want the world to see me ‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand When everything’s made to be broken I just want you to know who I am”

“I want people to know that it’s OK to simply be disabled and happy. Disability doesn’t always have to be synonymous with tragedy and desperation.” —@tara_shett (Tara Shetterly) “Being a wheelchair user can be fun; you don’t need to be sorry that I’m a wheelchair user when I get to race down hills, can’t feel bug bites on my legs, can pop a wheelie whenever I want and always win at musical chairs. I absolutely love my wheelchair and think it’s cute! I just wish the world understood that and was also accommodating and accessible for me. After becoming paralyzed at the age of 16, my fundamental identity expanded in a positive direction and often manifests itself in my advocacy. Not only is advocacy my passion, but it’s also a necessity. It’s very easy to post inspirational stories about ‘defying’ disability and go viral, because that’s what a lot of people expect from you, and even hope for. Even so, I would be betraying myself if I neglected to share hard, thought-provoking posts that shine a light on disabled joy and pride instead of attempting to ‘defy’ my permanent disability and genetic condition for views. I post content, usually Reels, sharing my unique perspective and experiences as a full-time wheelchair user, which focuses on using humor or relatability to share awareness, my disability pride and to challenge ableist standards.” Reel by @tara_shett Music by @solluminati
