People often say that the United States is one of the countries with the most accessibility for people with disabilities. But that didn’t happen by accident. Sometimes progress begins with something as simple and powerful as people saying: this isn’t right, and we deserve better. On March 12, 1990, disability rights advocates marched and wheeled to the U.S. Capitol demanding equal rights. When they reached the steps, many activists left their wheelchairs and mobility devices behind and crawled up the Capitol steps. They did it to show lawmakers something simple but powerful: this was what everyday life looked like for millions of people. The moment became known as the “Capitol Crawl.” It was raw, emotional, and impossible to ignore. Moments like this remind us of something important. Rights, accessibility, and dignity don’t appear out of nowhere. They exist because people stood up, spoke out, and made inequality impossible to ignore. Just four months later, on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, becoming one of the most important civil rights protections in the world and helping make public spaces, workplaces, and transportation more accessible. It happened because people refused to stay silent about the barriers they were facing every day. #community #news #history #facts Shared by a follower -(spreading awareness)

Decades of disability rights will be erased this Friday — and almost nobody is talking about it. The Department of Energy plans to quietly roll back a rule that’s been in place since 1980: the requirement that any building receiving DOE funds must be accessible to disabled people. That means starting next week, new federally funded schools, libraries, or labs may not need ramps, elevators, or other basic accommodations. The rollback will also apply to DOE-funded alterations to existing buildings. Could this be a trial run to test just how much the Trump administration can get away with before gutting rights elsewhere? @emmalayden breaks it down. *If you need a transcript to access this video, DM us!*

In Black (2005), Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji bring to life a story that is not about “overcoming” disability, but about access to language, education, and dignity. Inspired by the life of Helen Keller, the film foregrounds the role of a committed teacher, a resilient student, and the painstaking journey towards literacy in a world that often shuts its doors on persons with disabilities. What Black captures with rare honesty is that individual determination alone is never enough. Michelle’s journey is shaped by compassion at home, consistent pedagogical support, and an environment that eventually chooses to believe in her potential. This mirrors reality. In India, as per Census 2011, over 54 lakh people live with visual disabilities, yet access to Braille education, inclusive classrooms, trained educators, and accessible public infrastructure remains severely uneven. Without systemic support, talent is lost long before it can be recognised. Tomorrow is World Braille Day. Inclusive education, accessible buildings, learning materials, and public services are not optional add-ons; they are a policy responsibility. As citizens, educators, and institutions, support begins by demanding better funding, better design, better intent. We must start by amplifying the need for accessibility, listening to lived experiences, and holding systems accountable. Here are 20 focused Instagram keywords, aligned with Black, World Braille Day, accessibility, and an impact-over-virality framing: [World Braille Day, Black movie, inclusive education, accessibility matters, disability rights india, braille literacy, accessible classrooms, inclusive infrastructure, representation in cinema, amitabh bachchan, rani mukerji, indian cinema, education as a right, inclusion not charity, persons with disabilities, ableism in society, systemic support, family compassion, dignity and access] #worldbrailleday #black #reelitfeelit #fyp #explorepage

Usually, I speak in English in my videos, because I have followers from many other states and different countries. But today’s topic is related to Kerala, and since this directly concerns us, I am speaking in Malayalam. This video is about Sahara Bharat Foundation, located in, Wayanad, which we visited in person. For persons with disabilities who cannot be cared for at home, this place provides safe accommodation in a hostel-style setup. Along with accommodation, they also provide services under different departments, early intervention, skilled training, medical care, daily care, necessary assistive equipment, and other support services. They understand each individual’s needs and provide care accordingly. One of the most beautiful things here is that persons with disabilities are given jobs and the opportunity to stand on their own feet. As you can see in this video, a salaried employee with Down syndrome lovingly picks up my child, Cyan. That itself shows — disability is not a limitation; with the right opportunity, they have immense ability. Sahara Bharat Foundation is a place where people can live with safety, dignity, and respect. To continue these services, even a small contribution from us can make a big difference. For those who wish to support this trust, Please send message or comment and i will share the details. If we all stand together, we can give them a better future. #disablerights #Disability rights #Mindfulness #Childdevelopment #Specialneedseducation

The RPWD Act was passed in 2016. It exists. But implementation? Still missing in action. We call ourselves the 4th largest and fastest-growing economy, yet people with disabilities—and honestly, most citizens—can’t walk on footpaths, enter buildings, or move through public spaces with dignity. If growth doesn’t include accessibility, safety, and basic human dignity, then who exactly is this progress for? #viralimodi #wheelchairlife #rpwdact2016 #explorepageready #fypシ #disabilityrights [virali modi, rpwd act 2016, disability rights in India, accessibility in india, disability rights activist, accessible india campaign]

♿ Disability rights are human rights. 👉 Watch to learn about some of the big innovations developed in Israel that are helping improve the lives of people with disabilities. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 brings awareness to the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with different levels of abilities. It is also a central part of Judaism. Jewish tradition teaches us our obligation to ensure equal access for all people to religious and public life: "Do not separate yourself from the community" (Pirke Avot 2:5).

The Anti-Ableism Series Part 362 Featuring @repherbconaway Disability rights are your movement too. Solidarity starts by joining those already doing the work. Video description/transcript: Tiffany and Congressman Conaway in the frame in the Capitol. Tiffany: "Do you want to be a better ally to disabled people?" Rep Conaway: "Yes, cause you always want to do better. When I served in the New Jersey legislature, I was part of the Disability Caucus. My name is Herb Conaway. I am a Congressman representing the great state of New Jersey and the 3rd Congressional District. People should take time to learn what's going on in their communities because there are people with challenges who live with us and among us. All you have to do is take time to look and to understand what's going on with them. I mean as they say, look for the heart beating behind the breast. If you come to understand that, know where people are, it will cause you to recognize injustice when it's there and to work toward making things better for everybody. You want that for yourself. We should make sure we want those same things that we strive for for everybody in our community. Have entree in to those who are ahead of you in the process, organizing themselves around disability rights and join them in their cause. Because their cause is your cause too." #AntiAbleism #AntiAbleist #DisabilityRights #DisabilityInclusion
