Dodos evolved on the island of Mauritius with no natural predators. Because they had never seen a human, a cat, or a dog, they didn't have a "fight or flight" response. When Dutch sailors arrived in the 1500s, the dodos simply walked up to them out of curiosity.
Was it just hunting?
While humans did hunt them (the video's main point), the real "creepy" part is how fast it happened. Within just 100 years of human contact, the species was gone. Sailors brought invasive species like rats, pigs, and monkeys that ate the dodos' eggs, which they laid on the ground because they felt so safe.
