Did you know that you’re 3.6 times more likely to crash if you’re using your hand-held phone while driving? When a driver's eyes are taken off the road, even for a second, it makes drivers slower to notice and less able to safely respond to critical events on the road - or they may miss them entirely. March is Distracted Driving Awareness Month in BC! Doom-scrolling while driving in high wildlife-vehicle collisions zones is even more dangerous. Here's a few ICBC recommendations to recap this month: 1) Turn off your phone or notifications. Consider turning on “silent mode” or “do not disturb” when you first get into the car. 2) Keep your phone out of sight and out of mind. Put it in a closed glove box or centre console before you start driving. 3) Know where to go before you drive. Program your GPS before you start driving and pull over if you need to update directions. 4) Set realistic travel times and be mindful of rush hours and delays. Additionally, every ticket for distracted driving includes a fine of $368 and four driver penalty points. Always stay alert when driving, making sure to scan the entire roadway and sides of the road for wildlife to avoid a collision. Mobile phone use remains a leading cause of traffic accidents, with recent data showing that drivers who use their phones are 240% more likely to crash. In the United States alone, the National Safety Council estimates that cell phone use and texting contribute to approximately 1.6 million crashes annually, resulting in thousands of fatalities and hundreds of thousands of injuries. Even hands-free technology doesn't eliminate the risk, as it still slows reaction times by about 30%, often making a driver's responsiveness comparable to someone at the legal blood-alcohol limit. #DistractedDriving #RoadSafety #PutThePhoneDown #TrafficStats #SafeDriving

Reason #9: Protect your premium Even in Ontario’s no-fault insurance system, fault still matters. It can affect your insurance premiums, personal injury claims, and even lead to costly legal disputes. Clear dashcam footage can help show what really happened on the road — potentially protecting you from unfair liability, increased premiums, and expensive litigation. Avoid costly disputes. Protect your record and your wallet. #DashBank #RoadSafety #InsuranceProtection #DashcamEvidence DriveSmart

🚨 PSA: Put The Phone Down — No Exceptions 🚨 It’s becoming far too common: drivers passing collision scenes while holding up their cell phones to film. This is illegal. Under Washington law, you cannot hold any electronic device — including a cell phone — while driving. There are no exceptions for recording a collision scene. Recently, troopers identified drivers who were filming while driving and issued citations. If you’re holding your phone, you can be ticketed. When drivers slow down to record, they don’t just break the law — they create new dangers. Traffic backs up, even in the opposite direction on divided highways. Secondary collisions become more likely. First responders are put at risk. A collision scene is not entertainment. 📵 Put the phone away. 👀 Keep your eyes on the road. 🚗 Drive distraction-free. For more information on Washington’s cell phone law, see RCW 46.61.672. #DriveSafe #DistractedDriving #PutThePhoneDown #ItCanWait

🚨 California drivers… this could get you a ticket. Most people still think they can hold their phone at a red light or in traffic. That’s not true anymore. 📱❌ Sgt.
