My children are adults, my parents are ageing, and I just don't have the drive or energy anymore.
I'm still doing the damn job, but I care way less, and I'm planning my escape.

I’m learning to be PRESENT, even in the chaos, by surrendering everything to Jesus. THNot at all afraid to admit that:
1. After 32years of marriage I hate cooking dinner…so hubby and I had THE CHAT and he is now doing his share and we keep it simple - no pintrest looking dinners here.
2. I don’t like a fancy breakfast out….I find breakfast the easiest meal of the day and eat the same breakfast everyday and don’t get sick of it
3. I prioritise rest and take time out to read in the afternoons and watch Netflix guilt free
4. I go to bed at 8.30 (sometimes 8pm) to start my wind down to fall asleep at 9.30pm device free and a light environment that helps, except when going out (which tbh is not often these days)
5. This is a BIG ONE - not afraid to admit that I really enjoy being an empty nester! The kid adults are happy & independent and so am I.
6. I am not afraid to say NO to certain foods and alcohol in social settings. Food came easier than alcohol. Once i changed my relationship with social drinking so much more fell into place
7. I overthink more than I should getting better but hey sometimes things are solved and sometimes yes, its a complete waste of my energy and time
8. I have let go of the people pleaser in me…this was a big one for me. I go for kindness over pleasing.
9. I walk most days even when I don’t feel like
10. No longer see food as entertainment or an emotional release, it has taken lots of practice and not always perfect but it’s rare.

HOIf there’s one thing I learned from cleaning out my mom’s house after we lost her, it’s this:
I won’t leave random stuff & unorganized paperwork for my kids to deal with. 💔
I’m not talking about sentimental items. I’m talking about the random crap that’s in your house that you are hanging onto for no reason other than the “what if” and lack of motivation.
if your kids don’t know what’s important, they’ll have to go through every single thing in your house right now to make sure they’re not throwing out something important. And chances are they won’t even know what is important and what is not.

VEI am sort of understanding the midlife crisis concept. I’m not having one… although I did take up running. So, some could make that argument??
When your kids don’t need you as much as they did when they were younger, time feels different. No more car pools, sports games, plays, and school dances. No more tugging and pulling and managing overpacked calendars. And listen! I still have one left at home!!!!!! I can’t imagine what it feels like to be a true empty nester.
But I DO know what it feels like to have three kids in full swing versus today. Quite the shift.
My biggest obstacle? Trying not to fill every second of my day because I have to feel busy in order to feel complete. I am trying to shed that trait. It’s ok to watch Court TV. It’s ok to play sudoku. It’s ok to go for a walk. I don’t need to run on steam to feel accomplished. A good day is a a good day. Burn out doesn’t have to be a part of the equation.
I am learning to enjoy the empty.

THIt’s quiet. No 6 am games. No dogpile of shoes by the front door. As I enter a state of gratitude and calm shit I look around and….WHAM! When was the last time the window sill was dusted? How long has that stain been on the carpet? I don’t think that’s the original color of the hardwood. Are we hoarders? What’s that smell? Thankfully it’s the first day in like the forever calendar where nothing is on the books so…I’ll mop. I guess.
