🇫🇷 La France has not embraced the father of modern Olympics as they could have during the exciting Paris2024 period, ostensibly to avoid conversations about the "but he...." or "yes, but how do you explain..."
✨ I think Coubertin would have welcomed the conversation. I think his thoughts on women and sport (he didn't want us to participate☹️), which are admittedly (and hopefully so!!) distasteful to us in the current world would have been quite different now.
😊I was immensely lucky to spend a delightful morning at le Chateau de Mirville, family home of Pierre de Coubertin, at the invitation of Jacques de Navacelle, great-grand nephew of that original Olympic cheerleader. He proudly showed me around the home and property, told wonderful stories of Pierre as a youngster, and in the ultimate plot twist, thanked ME for teaching my students the story of Pierre de Coubertin. He seemed bothered by the idea that the accomplishments of his uncle be reduced by some in light of old fashioned opinions of the time that he apparently held and expressed.
🌟That entire morning spent at Mirville, I felt as if in a fairy tale, so a member of Coubertin's family expressing gratitude to me was overwhelming!
🤞🤞🤞🤞My strong, strong wish is that I be fortunate enough to cross paths with M. de Navacelle in Paris to be able to personally relate to him just how impactful that morning at Mirville was for me. Seeing the very place where Olympic ideas were born and grew was powerful, and I am forever grateful for his kindness and hospitality.

JELast year, Paris. This year, Teahupo'o! So excited to have visited the site of the Paris2024 surfing competition🏄🏄♀️🏄♂️. Might not be common knowledge that Tahiti is a French overseas department, so some folks might have been surprised to find that this wave on the south side of Tahiti island hosted surfing. 🚤We took a small boat right to the edge of the wave- a little daunting, but gotta trust the locals that they know what they're doing, right? 🌊 After the wave break, the water becomes such a beautiful mixture of frothy white and blue and turquoise and teal and unimaginable beauty. This wave is particularly powerful because of the fault lines on the ocean floor, and also dangerous because of the shallow reef. Weren't there early enough in the day to see surfers, but we wouldn't have really been able to see more than the start of the run anyway.
