Last Sunday we spent the day with @floridastateuniversity Office of STEM Teaching Activities, part of @fsuartssciences, down at the @fsumarinelab. We learned effective ways of engaging students young and old in STEM learning. We also completed the watershed journey we started with @cityoftlh Storm Water Management and @wakullaspringslabfsu and explored the estuarine and bay ecosystems! Special thanks to Captain Todd Bevis and First Mate Heather for spending their Sunday with us in such an impactful way! Supporting underserved schools and communities through program scholarships is a large part of our educational mission. We desire to give every student the opportunity to experience a personal connection with the ocean and inspire a sense of ocean stewardship in the next generation. To help support this mission, we are hosting our very first Education Scholarship Fundraiser! On March 21st all Aquarium admissions will support youth program scholarships. Experience our unique approach to marine science education through a series of temporary exhibits designed to inspire curiosity and stewardship of our oceans! From microscope observations and dissected squid, to pH testing, interactive watershed models, and ocean themed crafts, there is something for all ages to enjoy. From testing water quality and checking filtration systems to improving the tank environment, they are already taking great care of their marine habitat. 🧪💧 Throughout the year, students will monitor pH levels, maintain the ecosystem and take responsibility for caring for living organisms. 🌊🔬 From Studio to Sea — Marine Science, Up Close. To wrap up our exploration of marine science, Apollo headed to the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center at the St. Pete Pier — and what a way to bring learning to life. We dissected lionfish and learned why they’re invasive to Tampa Bay. We explored the Discovery Center’s sea life exhibits. We hopped on an eco-tour boat and cast a net to discover marine life up close and directly from the bay — all the while spotting dolphins, stingrays, and more. We visited Bird Island and spotted baby ibis and pelicans in their natural habitat. 🐬🦀🐦 And yes… we soaked in the sunshine and shared lunch at the Pier too. ☀️ Because the best way to study marine science? Get out on the water. Feel the breeze. Ask real questions. See it with your own eyes. Learning isn’t confined to four walls.
