They say peonies take about 3 years to establish themselves before you should cut on them, but I think I might cheat this year! A good bulk of mine in the peony field are in their 2nd full year, but I feel like they’re pretty big! Yes, I check on them (multiple) times a day! What do you think? Will I get many blooms on these this season? #peony #peonyseason #flowers #flowerfarm #peonies

Literally up to my ears in flowers...I’m constantly covered in dirt, there is no hope for my poor cracked hands and don’t even look at my fingernails…I’m tired, I’m hot…it must be tulip season! 😂😂😂IYKYK Not sure if I want to laugh, cry or be happy all my tulips bloomed before April…but here we are. 🫠🫠🫠🫠 Last year was a slow and steady tulips season but this year’s heat made them ready to go. It’s always a good lesson that Mother Nature does what she wants and we are not in control. 🙃 #tulips #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming flowerfarmer

Day 68/365 Happy Monday! It’s a beautiful day here in Circleville. The sun is shining and we have lots to get done today. First on my to-do list is take more dahlia cuttings. Dahlias are one of the easiest flowers to propagate. And I’m hoping to growing hundreds this year, so multiplying my plants now is essential 🥰 When I tell you this season is going to be night and day compared to last year… 🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻❤️🙌🏻 Happy planting, friends! #flowerfarm #fieldsoflaughter #locallygrown #flowerfarmer #circleville

We’ve been flat out on the farm over the past couple of weeks getting the ground ready and planting out our dahlias. It takes a team to make the dream work and it’s so satisfying to get over 10,000 dahlias planted. Thanks to Ethan, Hannah and Laura for all your work 🙌 This field is a combination of: - dahlia tubers for cut flower production and sale over winter - dahlia seedlings in our breeding program as we develop new dahlias. We will evaluate these as they grow and flower and decide which ones stay for another year. Follow along if you want to see a field of dahlias in bloom. We planted over the last week of October and into the first week of November. Our plants usually begin flowering in late January. #flowerfarm #australiangrownflowers #floreliedahlias #dahliafarm #australianflowerfarm #ballaratbusiness

I got so many comments when I posted about planting these that I was doing it too close… Here’s the thing: •If you’re growing for cut flowers, you pull the whole plant up, bulb and all. This means you can store them for longer and it also means you get extra stem length. So you can plant close together with this method. •If you want your tulips to be perennials, plant 4-6 inches apart and make sure you leave the foliage in the tulip to die down naturally and feed the bulb. . . . . . . . . #tulips #springflowers #microflowerfarm #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #cutflowers #localflowers #gardeningtips #gardenlife #cutflowerfarm #flowerstagram #reeltips #gardening

Snapdragons LOVE cooler weather and thrive when they can spend their first couple months in the ground in cooler temps. They also can handle close to 20 degrees F (as long as they have a good root system) just fine, so don’t be afraid to plant them early: they’ll be happier if you do! If you’re in zones 8 and up, you can overwinter these for an earlier spring first bloom and exceptionally tall stems. And if you’re in colder zones, consider starting them several weeks earlier than you normally would. As with most plants, some good mulching also benefits them in numerous ways! Another key for great blooms is picking the right group of snapdragons for your climate. Snapdragons are divided up in 4 groups. Group 1-2 do best with shorter days, and lower temperatures. These are the ones you want to plant if you want EXTRA early blooms but they won’t do well once summer hits. These include Avignon, Maryland, Chantilly, Costa, and Legend varieties. Groups 3-4 are ones you want for longer days and warmer temperatures, but they will still stop producing if you get really hot summers. These one include Cannes, Monaco, and Opus Snapdragons And finally Groups 3-4 take longer to grow and longer to bloom but also do much better with higher summer temperatures and often have even taller stems (if started at the right time). In my climate, they will keep producing spring, summer and fall. These include Potomac, and Madame Butterfly varieties. The seeds are incredibly tiny, so my favorite and easy way to start them now is to sprinkle them over a tray of damp potting soil, let them germinate and then prick out the tiny plants either into cell trays, or sometimes just straight into the garden! Extra tips: They benefit from staking on some level, and this is one of the few flowers I’ll use netting on. If you pinch the grow stem when the snaps are 4-5 inches tall, it will branch out and you’ll get more stems per flower. These will be slightly shorter, but still MORE than long enough for bouquet work. Snapdragons are also an edible flower, if you want to use them in food prep for extra color: Questions?
