The USDA has decided to halt over $1 billion in funding that supported schools and food banks in sourcing food from local farms. This includes canceling $660 million for the Local Food for Schools and Child Care (LFSCC) program.
This decision profoundly impacts local farmers, schools, and families that rely on these vital programs for fresh, healthy food. Programs like these are crucial in strengthening food security and supporting small-scale growers.

BEGarden mural! Passionate teachers, master gardeners, and friends from the health department turned a junkyard into a school garden! They wanted the neighborhood to know what they’re growing so I painted it on the fence for them:
strawberries 🍓 , beets, onions 🧅 , carrots 🥕 , lettuce 🥬 , sweet peas 🫛, echinacea flowers, milkweed 🦋 , lavender, and sunflowers 🌻!
