Rolex has been working on new tech to make a red and black GMT bezel in zirconia based ceramic, with a patent published in early 2024 that repeatedly calls out that specific colour combo as a key use case.
This year the writing on the wall feels bolder than ever. A lot of authorised dealers have quietly stopped taking new names for the steel Pepsi GMT, and the model has even disappeared from some dealer sites, which many now see as a strong sign it is either discontinued or about to be replaced by a new reference. None of this is officially confirmed by Rolex, but the combination of patents, AD behaviour and leaks has the whole community expecting a modern Coke in the near future, possibly tied to a refresh of the wider GMT Master II line. I'm betting that once the Pepsi is formally retired, it will jump again on the secondary market.
So where does that leave you and your wrist. If you already have a Pepsi, this whole shift just adds fuel to the fire and makes it even more of a keeper, because you are wearing a modern classic that might never be repeated in quite the same way. If you are still hunting, you are probably staring down rising prices and fewer AD allocations, which will push many straight onto the waitlist for a future Coke as the more realistic way into the GMT story.
So who are you? Team Pepsi or team Coke. Do you back the bright, loud travel icon that everyone knows, or are you waiting for the darker, sharper red and black to finally drop.

FOThe price of a yellow gold GMT Master II jumped to £35,400 from £34,000.
Country-specific prices for timepieces made by Geneva-based Rolex can be seen as an indicator of a country’s economic strength. The world’s top luxury watch brand produces more than 1 million watches per year, with sales above 10 billion Swiss francs ($11.08 billion).
The price of gold has surged 14% this year, touching an all time high of $2,450 an ounce in May on optimism the US Federal Reserve will begin cutting interest rates. The British pound last month rose to its highest against the euro since August 2022.
