UNI watched Goodfellas for the first time last year, and after trying to find fault, I came to the conclusion that it’s one of those films that’s impossible not to love. Marty’s at his best when he’s making a gangster movie.
The atmosphere in the movie is incredible. That opening monologue is so iconic. Every character feels distinct. Their personalities, their relationships, the little dynamics between them. Some of the scenes where the wiseguys are just sitting around a table gambling, joking, and bickering feel almost like a documentary because of how natural it all is.
Joe Pesci is probably a real gangster that does acting on the side to the clean the money. Made me forget he was chasing around macaulay culkin in that other movie.
If you haven’t seen this it’s next on your list.
